Pretty sweet huh, too bad he's going to have to die because he's a carthie. Anyways I have a question. How does he have nine stars? You can see all his stats, and it just doesn't add up. Can someone (someone directly involved with the mod) shed some light on this situation?

it's scripted..

Actually, it's not. There is little to no scripting in RS. What year is it in your game? The Carthaginians start out with a Hannibal character in Spain at the beginning of the game, or maybe it was just a fluke that Hannibal was born.

The year is 493 Ab Urbe Condita. I've played RS pretty extensively, and if the Cartaginians start with him, I think I would have seen him before now. My guess is that he has appeared by sheer chance.

But my original question remains unanswered. How does he have nine stars, when his stats should only allow him to have five?

3 of them are because all AI generals receive a boost to their abilities, and probably he has one from his ancillaries as well.

EDIT: The spymaster ancillary gives a +1 Command

Thanks Squid!
:inquisitive: I suspected something like that for the reason Hannibal having nine stars. Does this +3 stuff also add to influence and management?

It's one of the numerous "hidden" traits that you'll find if you ever decide to open up the export_descr_character_traits (did I get that right?) text file. As for influence and management... not to sure.

AI Genreals get a boost to most if not all things, so influence, management, movement, etc.

And I imagine that these bonuses are given to the AI to make them less of pushovers. Is that correct?

Yes, it's to add to the challenge.

That's what I thought.

But also after reviewing some of the previous posts, I also would like to know if the appearance of Hannibal in my game was due to luck or do they start out with him. You seem pretty informed about these sorts of things concerning RS.

Sometimes you just get lucky (I always wish that historical names appear at the right time)

I had Publius Cornelius Scipio in EB, battling Hasdrubal something in Spain.

Who won the fight?

Hasdrubal Barca?

Also doesn't the Drill Master also give +1?

I am rather fond of my faction in RS as the Carthaginians, so if I may... Carthage does start out with Hannibal as a general in southern Spain. There is a nearly, if not identical army (also in southern Spain), that is led by Hasdrubal for them as well. I'm fairly certain they always start out this way, because every time I start a campaign as anyone they are there. :P And I have a character with the second name "lol" as well. I got a kick out of that! :D
