View Full Version : Bring back horsebreeders! (An Idea for EB2)

IN EB1, you have done away with all the different structures for military units and consolidated them all under one building (two for regional units).
Now I think this is a better system than RTW, but means that in a short timespan, you have access to every single factional unit type.

I like the idea in MTW, that you need to build different military structures and combine them with each other to get specific units. Eg. You can build all the military buildings for horsebreeding, yet still only get simple hobilars. However, combine a horsebreeders guild with a spearmakers workshop and you got mounted sergeants. Or combine it with an armourers guild and you got knights (or something like that).

I really liked this idea as it meant you need to develop and specialise some settlements for building specific unit types. There was also more management involved. I think EB could take a leaf out of MTW's book and incorporate something similar. Eg. You build up your MIC for the base units. But if you want to get more elite armoured units, you need to build up your armourers workshop AS WELL as the MIC. If you want to get mounted units, then you need to build up a horse breeder AS WELL as your MIC.

So, what are everyone else's thoughts on this? I think this will give different settlements variety, producing different units, rather than just producing the exact same unit types.

pretty sure it can't be done, you can code this kind of requirements for buildings (i.e. the x building can be built only if the building y is already present), but afaik not for units

But I think that this is MTW2 system.
So it could be done.

Yup...EB2 is for MTW2...logically follows if we can do it in vanilla MTW2 we can do it in EB2.

Well can we do it in vanilla MTW2?

Building requirements in recruitment lines are not something we ever plan to use.

But I have a plan ...

It's a good plan.

Is it a grand scheme? Or a small feature?

It´s not a scheme. Nor a feature. It´s a plan. A good plan.

It might just be baseless conjecturey though. :drama2:

Ha, I´m the #1 supporter for 2 Numidian factions. Which I am quite confident there´ll be.

you are bold! still, 2 numidians as n history? I dunno if they will have that. 10 factions extra, 9 used, 1 known for sure (pergamon). chances are good, but I dunno. they may put 2 pr 3 new "barbarian" cultures, or maybe the Yuezhi may return (unlikely to me)

I know we're going way off topic now but still, as we're there anyway :)
Has anyone taken a look at this?

Obviously not cannon for definite EB2 factions (five new African factions? I think not...) but it makes an interesting read and perhaps helps us speculate a little easier :D
Cheers

I doubt the confidence is linked to rationality, though. He's just saying things, and quite probably has spent too much time in these forums to remain sober... :clown:

No Syracusans:no::no::shame:

(I'm the #1 supporter for an EB2 Syracusan faction.... Come to think about it... I'm the 1# supporter for TWO eb2 Syracusan FactionS!!! - I know they'll be there, I know they'll be there, I know they'll be there).

EDIT: And if you're wondering HOW there could be two Syracusan factions with just one Syracuse? Well, they'll each have it every second turn, and it'll then shift to the other one on the next turn. And then they'll use their turn to conquer those areas just taken by the other faction in the last turn. And of course, the faction which is not in Syracuse, will spend its turn in Gotland... (you were all wondering why that province existed, weren't you? :P)

That's the best idea I have heard since a man in the 30s in Germany talked of building a super race.

That webpage isn't a very good guide to faction inclusion. It's dates back to the first open beta, when both the Saba and the Saka had not been included yet. You'll note neither appear on the list, nor do the factions that were considered as alternatives.
