The House of Borg

You are walking around in town on a perfectly normal day in perfectly normal weather where nothing even remotely abnormal has not happened. However, you pause as you notice the large new banner hanging from a modestly large building. You keep walking, then do a double-take; this banner is most certainly not normal. First of all, it is the most unique piece of Byzantine heraldry you have ever seen, with a single, large, brown cube being prominently featured. Secondly, you are absolutely certain that you have never seen this banner before.

Curious, you completely abandon your normal routine to take a closer look. Upon venturing inside, you note the wall is ornately decorated with images of Byzantine glory, past and present, and, oddly enough, cubes. Lots and lots of cubes. At the far end of the hall hangs another large banner with the words "The Path to Victory is Through Conquest" embossed on it. Other, smaller banners with different phrases also adorn the halls, but you take no notice of them now.

On a door lying directly below the large banner is a piece of parchment. Enscribed on it is the following:

The Byzantine Organized Reclamation Group
(or the Borg for short)

Purpose: The Borg seek to increase the power and glory of the Byzantine Empire through conquest. We recognize that lands not under direct Byzantine control do little to increase the nation's prestige and would be better served to everyone, from rulers to people, if they answered to the Basileus. The long-term goals of the Borg are bringing the lands of the ancient Roman Empire at its apex under control.

Message to potential allies: Clearly, we seek a common goal, brothers. The Borg welcome any and all efforts at a friendly competition to gain the most land, since such sport will only serve to accomplish both of our goals quicker.

Message to potential enemies: Do not underestimate our will and our power. It will be better for everyone if you submit to the peaceful rule of the Byzantine Empire. Resistance is futile.

Joining the Borg: Senators who wish to join the Borg must obey the following Borg Code:

I. Swear fealty to the Borg.
II. Recognize that Klimis Dokeianos is the initial Commander of the Borg.
III. Recognize that the Commander of the Borg has the power to name his successor, that successor being designated so by carrying the title of Lieutenant of the Borg.
IV. Expand large effort on advancing the Borg's goals, namely, conquering land and increasing the House of Borg's membership.
V. Never act against a fellow Borg. Acts of conquest against other Senators are permissible in extreme circumstances, such as when those Senators throw off the yoke of Byzantine rule. However, this does not apply to anyone belonging to the Borg.
VI. Recognize that together, the Commander and the Lieutenant of the Borg may vote to expel any lone member from the House of Borg.
VII. Recognize that, after three people have joined the Borg and that number holds steady or grows thereafter, the Borg Code may be altered at any time by a proposed Amendment which requires a 2/3 majority to pass.
