Its a bug. If you play a MM battle, at the battle results screen, where it shows your opponents kills-- it will show a little computer icon rather than your opponent's Steam icon. For some reason the game treats everyone as having dropped from the battle-- thus it gives you the dishonorable coward trait. I'm told they are working on it.

Don't even need to have something like that to begin with, just have people who drop out d/c get a loss and to bad for those that have bad connections because either way you ruin the match when you drop. I'd rather have a few losses on my record due to a bad connection on my part than have to deal with people quitting left and right just to avoid a loss.

The dishonourable coward trait has been removed in the latest patch that we have had.

What does this trait do? I just got it (I think from getting dropped in an avatar game).

Hmm, I still got it and I started playing after the patch. I checked my statistics screen and it said I'd played 5 games, completed 5 games - looks like it isn't totally fixed.

Does it go away at some point? On the other hand, if it doesn't go away, pretty soon we'd all be cowards anyway.

it's gone for me 13 game finish 14 played.

Thats why I always get morale bonuses for my soldiers and scare bonuses for my avatar. Ashi units always routs even from the battles they can easily win.
