So I finally decided to try and hack it at mp and ran into an issue right away. I wasn't allowed to join any games, saying the host had a different game version. I double checked, temporarily deleted my mods, and still had no luck. At the main menu, I'm being told I have version 1.00, but there's been some minor patches, neh? I'm at a bit of a loss.

Sounds like you haven't allowed patching, or something in your game can't be verified. If you primarily play with steam set to "offline" this could be the case.

First make sure you've enabled the game to auto patch. Go to your steam Library and right click on Shogun 2, Select properties -> Updates. Ensure that the box says "Always keep up to date." After you do that, try restarting steam. This should make the game realize it needs to update.

If that doesn't work another good step to do is, again in the properties window, go to Local Files and tell steam to verify the integrity of the game's cache. This will essentially double-check all your files with what steam knows to be the current version. This can also force steam to update the game, or cause steam to download replacements for corrupted files. This process can take an hour.

Well, I'm almost always in online mode, and I do indeed have it set to always keeping updated. So I'm going to give it a shot with the game cache. Thanks.

Another method:

Close steam and ensure that the process is ended.

Navigate to your steam folder. Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

(x86 is because I have a 64 bit OS. If you don't have one of those, just go to normal program files)

locate the file "client registry.blob" Move it to your desktop. This file contains all the update information for the platform and the games you have downloaded. By removing it from the steam directory you're going to tell steam it has never once downloaded updates.

Restart steam. Updates should start automatically. First for the game service, then for any games you have. You'll see a pop-up in the bottem right of the screen if they did "Shogun 2 has finished downloaded updates"

When you start Shogun 2, on the front page you should see, in the top right hand corner of the screen,

v1.0.0 Build 3327.284659

if you have the updated version of the game (latest patches).

If you see the main-steam page do this:

go to your game libary
right click Shogun2
a new menu will pop up
now click on the button - download content
new window will open

There are many information and settings concerning updates and downloads.
Maybe you turned off the automatic updates.

...thats all I can think of right now.

Make sure you join a clan before you start playing, you can also create your own clan to start with something. Its important, so you gain clantokens right from start.
To get quick unlocks, you can also play with a friend "hosted" battles, just make sure the game lasts longer than 3 mins, else you wont get a win.
