View Full Version : Rise Of Empire Units for HRTW
Here I will have screens of all the units from the chinese mod Rise Of Empire. Some will be included in our mod and some will just be for amusement and your own use. First, the House Of Julii:
Maybe Foderati or Germanic Auxilia YES
2329
Samnites in Roman Colors maybe Samnite Auxilia? YES
2330
This I believe is Eastern Legionary Auxilia Maybe?
2331
This seems to be a different skin for Legionary Cohort Maybe?
2332
Here is a version of Praetorian Guards but it brings us back to that debate Maybe?
2333
Some Roman Hoplites.. Did the Romans use Hoplites at this time? Maybe?
2334
These look nice.. Some Syrian Archers YES
2335
A generals unit! Maybe?
2336
US Assault Infantry HAHAHAHAHA these guys destroyed Carthaginian Peasants in 3 shots! NO
2337
This mod also has all of the original units as well but they have different shields.. what do you guys think? Next, the Scipii and Brutii
There were no newer units for the Brutii or Senate but there 3 for the Scipii
Another type of Roman Cavalry i'm guessing, would have to make into roman colors Maybe?
2338
Uhhh.. Roman Chariots? Unless there was proof in battle, I don't think so. They look cool though NO
2339
Roman Elephants? Same as the chariots... NO
2340
Next Up, Macedon!

Maybe Foderati or Germanic Auxilia YES
We should make this an AOR unit, maybe as mercenaries
Samnites in Roman Colors maybe Samnite Auxilia? YES
Isn't this already in Rome Total War?
This I believe is Eastern Legionary Auxilia Maybe?
This unit brings up the Lorica Segementata issue. Maybe we can make a Lorica Hamata Legionary available across the entire empire, and the Segmentata Legionary available only in Rome.
This seems to be a different skin for Legionary Cohort Maybe?
See above, and the Legionary would probably have to lose the green leggings
Here is a version of Praetorian Guards but it brings us back to that debate Maybe?
I don't really like the Praetorians (as a unit), but they should be in our game. I would also have to check the historical accuracy of those units
For the second batch of units
Some Roman Hoplites.. Did the Romans use Hoplites at this time? Maybe?
No they did not. Although mercenaries and auxiliaries may have used Hoplite formations
These look nice.. Some Syrian Archers YES
Only late in the game, perhaps as AOR unit.
And the Generals looks alright
Could we make an auxillary hoplite unit? Here is Macedon:
Macedonian Hoplites NO
2341
A New type of Phalanx Unit YES
2342
Macedonian Armoured Hoplites NO
2344
I believe this is Allied Pikemen YES
2345
This Looks Like a Palace or Royal Guard of Some sort YES
2346
Well we could rename the roman hoplites to early triarii that's what eb basicaley did

Well we could rename the roman hoplites to early triarii that's what eb basicaley did
We are not doing that. We are sticking with Polybian units.
And maybe the Romans could train Auxiliary Phalangites or Auxilliary Hoplites in Hellenistic areas. But then that brings up a whole host of issues.
very true.. could you review the Macedonian Units i posted?
Macedonian Companion Cavalry YES
2352
This Unit would be Elite Pikemen YES
2347
Thracian or Illyrian Infantry? YES
2348
Thracian Peltasts YES
2349
Some Thracian Light Cavalry? YES
2350
Royal Squadron? Yes
2351
Next: Egypt!

Well we will have to credit the author for his work, and try to change each unit as well.
Also, most of these units are Phalangites. For Phalangites, we need to have a small shield (or peltast-type shields) , and two hands on the Sarissa. Also, different units will need to have different types of hemets (so some have the basic cone helmet while others have the Phygrian helmet
Macedonian Hoplites NO
These seem to be marginally more historical than the RTW Phalangites, but the shield is too large. The phalanx formation also seems to be smaller than the phalanx of the other pictures. I don't think we should have this without much changing.
A New type of Phalanx Unit YES
We should definitely have this, if with a bit of reskinning or resizing
Macedonian Armoured Hoplites NO
You are correct, we should not have these units without major changing.
I believe this is Allied Pikemen YES
The helmet looks good, but once again the shield needs to be smaller
This Looks Like a Palace or Royal Guard of Some sort YES
These were the Hypaspists (sp?) and they would not fight as Phalangites (they would have pretty much different armour as well). The helmet is good, and we could use it for the other troops.
Edit: Second batch of troops.
Macedonian Companion Cavalry YES
Maybe, the helmet/armour/weapon appears to be alright. We could use the RTW unit, they look very similar.
This Unit would be Elite Pikemen YES
We could use them, but they would need lighter armour. I do not think the Phalangites fought with heavy armour. This Unit would be Elite Pikemen YES
Thracian or Illyrian Infantry? YES
Maybe, if those factions were semi barbaric, they might have used mail or no body armour.
The rest can go in
Today I will finish all of the units.. there will be some fantasy ones that we will not need to use.
Egyptian Spearmen NO
2362
Egyptian Sicklemen NO
2363
Elite Sicklemen NO
2364
Dog Warriors? I believe it represents an Egyptian God NO
2365
Chariot Dog Warriors NO
2366
The first three units are historical but were obviously from an earlier time frame, so they would be good for Vanilla RTW but not for HRTW. The last two can be used for fantasy mods
Seleucid Empire Next
Some Seleucid Legionaires. I like them because they are more accurate for the timeframe YES
2367
Some Seleucid Legionaire Archers?? Unless they existed I say NO
2368
Maybe Bithynian Cavalry? YES
2369
Carthage is next.. if you are viewing this and you wanna review, be my guest:)
Carthaginian Scutarii Nice! YES
2370
Carthaginian Hastati??? Weird huh? NO
2371

The legionaries look good, and the rest of your choices are correct
Edit: For Carthage, Hannibal did use Roman armour for his soldiers due to the amount of dead Romans. But we should not have Carthaginian Hastati.
I think we should have the Carthaginian Scutarii, since Carthage did use Iberian infantry. However, they should only be AOR units.
This also begs the question, how far do we go with the AOR system?
Some Libyan Spearmen.. we can make them Punic Spearmen or something YES
2372
Carthaginian Bull Warriors? We aren't even having Spanish Bull Warriors NO
2373
Another version of Sacred Band, but with Corinthian Helmets Maybe?
2374
Archers! Don't they look nice? YES
2375
Parthia is next
Armoured Spearmen. Good unit for Atropatene, needs its own UI YES
2376
The Immortals from 300!!!! Haha NO
2377
Real Immortals, were they around? Maybe?
2378
Archers. I am pretty sure Parthia doesnt have them in vanilla YES
2379
Mede Cavalry? YES
2380
Mede Horse Archers? YES
2381
Some good units here for Atropatene!! Gauls are next
Lord President of Gallifrey
09-11-2011, 23:50
Some Libyan Spearmen.. we can make them Punic Spearmen or something YES
We would have to change it for sure...the shield and armour look weird.
Another version of Sacred Band, but with Corinthian Helmets Maybe?
I'm not sure, but we have to change the phalanx style to a different one. We might have to change the rest of the equipment though
Archers! Don't they look nice? YES
Don't we already have Carthaginian archers?
Armoured Spearmen. Good unit for Atropatene, needs its own UI YES
Its in phalanx formation so we will need to edit that.
For the next set of units.
No immortals
We could have archers, but we also need slingers
As for the cavalry, we could have them, but i'm not sure if they were around when the game starts. The Parthians had very heavy cavalry, and light cavalry, so since Media became part of Parthia, the horsemen need less armour. The other cavalry could become a "medium" cavalry rather than a heavy one
Some Celtic Spearmen? Too medieval looking so.. NO
2382
Gallic Swordsmen YES
2383
Elite Swordsmen YES
2384
Two Handed Swordsmen. Again Too Medieval NO
2385
Head Hunters? Good unit except for the head in their hands. Maybe?
2386
Gallic Chariots. I like it, but they need UI. YES
2387
Lord President of Gallifrey
09-12-2011, 01:46
Gallic Swordsmen YES
Yes, and we might need to slightly edit the helmet plume colour.
Elite Swordsmen YES
The helmet needs to be changed, but we could use it.
Head Hunters? Good unit except for the head in their hands. Maybe?
This is more of a Briton unit, but even then I doubt the historical accuracy of head hurling units
Gallic Chariots. I like it, but they need UI. YES
No, I believe only the British used Chariots. In Gaul, chariots were more of a battlefield transportation
Gallic Noble Cavalry YES
2388
Now on to the Germans
Vikings.. hahahahaha! Vikings vs Legions lol NO
2389
Germanic Swordsmen YES
2390
Archer Warband YES
2391
Next: Britons
Brittanic Spearmen, again too medieval NO
2392
Romano-British Infantry, would be good for BI NO
2393
Lord President of Gallifrey
09-12-2011, 02:07
Gallic Noble Cavalry YES
Vikings.. hahahahaha! Vikings vs Legions lol NO
Germanic Swordsmen YES
Archer Warband YES
Brittanic Spearmen, again too medieval NO
Romano-British Infantry, would be good for BI NO
Correct, on all counts although the armour of the Gallic cavalry will have to change--either no armour or mail.
Scottish Archers... i dont think so.. NO
2394
Women Warriors from the Movie King Arthur NO
2395
Briton Longbowmen NO
2396
Briton Cavalry YES
2397
Romano-British Cavalry NO
2398
Briton Noble Infantry YES
2399
Armenians are next
Armenian Legionaires YES
2400
Armenian Cavalry YES
2401
Cataphract Horse Archers YES
2402
Dacians are next
Lord President of Gallifrey

Most of your selections are correct:
1. Keep in mind that Briton Cavalry would be similar to Gallic Cavalry
2. Briton Noble infantry needs to lose that helmet
3.I don't think Armenian Cavalry is correct---an axe?
4. Armenian Legionnaires are alright as long as that isn't Lorica Segmentata
when i have time i will continue
I like the idea of different auxilia, though they need hamata. I think allow training of both segmantata and hamata legionaries anywhere, and instead give pro/cons. this might include cost, armour, speed, and such. I don't like the Praets. Though..... Maybe make the praet the general. Rome didn't use hoplites during republic/empire. They got rid of them in the kingdom/early republic era. No assualt infantry? D: I wanna shoot at the chariots though. Roman chariots? I don't believe rome hadd chariots, except maybe as a special thing, like for generals. Rome did in fact have elephants, but general only used them for shock and awe against northern barbarians. So I think it should be a mercanary unit from the far eastern provinces. We should have different cavalry for rome, but no legionary cavalry or "roman cavalry". Maybe an auxillia cavalry named roman cavalry, but generally citizen cavalry was only to skirmish, and not effective.
sorry if I'm breaking in with already stated info, or if I'm bringing back dead thoughts, I'm still reading up on the mod :bucktooth:
