This relates to the gun factory thread. I'm curious as to what faith everybody out there has there Daimyo follow. Or, as it seems that one can change back and forth with no penalty - If you could only be one, no switching on a whim, what would it be? For me the monk is too powerful to give up for some useless-in-rain gunners. Plus those damn traders piss me off! Comin to rip me off, eh? Have a word with the monk, pope-boy! hahahaha

Christian Shimazu is worth serious consideration for others I'd reccomend staying buddhist. Certainly Mori (nobrainer) and Uesugi (argh sp. The blue ones with the cheap archers) should stay buddhist.

Just my 5 cents.

I guess I should state that I always play as Mori, just to get the cheap monks. Certainly not for the quality of their fields.

Nowadays I convert to Christians in every game I play, no matter which clan I play. After playing STW for a while, (have played all clans on normal, some on hard and Hojo on expert) the campaigns can sometimes get boring. So I turn Christian for fun, because I'd have to worry about revolts, I can train priests, I can cause Christian revolts in enemy provinces, I can build the cathedral, and of course, I get guns.

Well, I'm a christian (least that's what it says on my birth certificate http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif), and since I only play the game on-line anymore...guess I always play as christian too!

I have also played every clan on normal some on hard. I just started a Shimazu on hard and went christian just for the fun of it. Of course I went overboard to early. I have a preist in every territory in Japan now. But doing this neglected my Army a little and i got pounced pretty bad. So i started over. But the christian thing is pretty fun. I actually caused a revolt in another territory. It was the first time I ever saw it.

Maybe EA can make the monks a little less intimmetating, and the gunner a bit more powerful and accurate. Then it just might balance out.

Christianity (in Shogun) is fun for entertainment. Priests are dirt cheap, and getting guns earlier than everyone else can have great advantages. Not to mention the Cathedral Koku Bonus. Just watch out for revolts.

Bhuddism is much easier, since you worry less about internal revolts, and monks are fun to play with. Just don't charge straight into the gun formations.

I agree that playing as buddhist is much easier, but through effective use of shinobi, converting to Christianity can be quite simple. However, if things go wrong and you must suffer buddhist revolts it can turn the whole game around. For this reason I prefer to play as buddhist. Also, I see no real advantage in having musketeers early - except if you must defend a bridge - I find they always lose against an army with any skill.

Gotta ask...Heims why'd you go with 30?
Heims57 sounds better http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

SP christianity is fun, it slows down the game by about a decade or so for me. I like to use a port/trading post strategy, since this increases port icome to 400koku anually.

Since I know I'm gonna have to take my time I also tend to use strategic units more often. My all time high ninja was an honor 6 christian (almost made me feel worried for his immortal soul http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif)

I suppose the advantage to becoming Christian is that the enemy's Sohei are slightly less effective against your samurai, I have to say the campaign I am playing at the moment is Christian and is much more fun than playing as Buddhist. I find it is entertaining to shoot a unit of Warrior Monks to ribbons with several musketeers.

I go christian (never as a person, only in computer games) just to spice things up a bit.
I also think monks are a bit too powerful, and wish the MP had the option of making a "christian" army just to help alleviate the morale factor all monks currently take advantage of. it would also cut down on those all monk armies we all run into once in a while.

LOL Soly...

All monk army you say? Why I've never seen one of those http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif Great idea about the christian MP army http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif But does anyone know for sure that monks don't scare christian soldiers?

sort of like those gun factories you didn't believe existed

Well, my H1 Buddhist Ashigaru unit once went from "uncertain" to "wavering" when charged by H4 WMs...

Or maybe it was just that they anticipated that they were all going to be dead in 30 seconds http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well, Black Ship, got the 30 from playin wearing 30 in highschool football and basketball. My buddy was 57. Could you imagine goin through high school with that as a name? Nasty. Anyway, I think the buudhist-christian thing needs to be rebalanced. Converting back and forth without penalty and things like that are just wrong.

LOL,

Just thought Heims57 was a good nick, that's all http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Went thru Red Deer a few time on my way back-n-to Alaska. So which are you an Eskimo or Stampeder fan?

Yeah, christianity is more of a novelty as coded, but hey...they say they're changing it in the patch (at least I think they said that:confused http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Being able to add SP additions to the MP game would be great, especially in tournament situations - I would certainly be willing to pay a little extra koku to get things like the armor and weapon bonuses! I'd probably have to get that high-speed cable, I guess.

It takes some people too long to pick their army as it is Banzai http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif Pls don't complicate it for them http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I think a random religious revolt might add spice. A revolt independent of the Daimyo's religious undertakings. For example a Christian Daimyo in a province with a high proportion of christians just suddenly decides to chuck and have a pogrom! Or, more likely, a Buddhist province suddenly has a christian revolt- with no warning!

While it can be a pain it could also be fun http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Besides I'd just love to see the AI lose a key province due to a random event http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Black Ship: Are you referring to MP or SP about the revolts? In SP, I've had religious revolts many times, usually going Christian, but some the other way, too. It certainly makes things a bit more tense, and it really helps to leave "defensive" armies in key locations. It is also fun to start revolts in enemy provinces. That's what the shinobi are there for! Although, you do need quite a number of them....
