TotalWar.Org is proud to present...

Total War: Shogun 2 Creative Video Contest

- Reward -

The submissions will be judged by a panel of four from The Org's staff and Craig from Creative Assembly!

The winner will receive either a Steam or Amazon gift worth $30.

- Rules -

1. The contest will run until May 21st 11:59 PST.

1. Video must be longer than one minute and less than ten minutes.

2. Video must be creative in nature. No "lets plays," YouTube poops, generic gameplay videos.
Adding play-by-play commentary to these things does not make it acceptable.

3. Must make a note in the info box of the video or in an annotation that this is your submission
to the competition, including your forum name. This is to avoid people finding someone else's videos,
signing up with a similar name and claiming it for their own.

4. You may only enter one video.

5. Post the video as a reply to this or any of the other threads for this contest.

- Tips -

1. The WeGame (http://www.wegame.com/) and XFire (http://beta.xfire.com/) clients are free video recording programs you can use.
Fraps (http://www.fraps.com/) is better but requires a fee to unlock all of its features.

2. Windows Movie Maker is free video editing software that everyone running Windows has and
is very easy to use for beginners, though not very flexible. Virtual Dub (http://virtualdub.org/) is another free video editing
program but is more for intermediate-to-expert level users.

Here is a guide for Windows Movie Maker: LINK (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Getting-started-with-Windows-Movie-Maker), and here's the documentation for Virtual Dub: LINK (http://virtualdub.org/virtualdub_docs.html).

3. While the maximum length is ten minutes, don't feel that you need to make Gods and Generals
in order to compete. Sometimes less is more! Don't feel you need to re-enact a battle scene from
Kagemusha or The Last Samurai, either. While something like that has as much of a chance
to win as anything else, a linear story or even a comedy are perfectly valid directions to go as well.

4. Try to record at fairly decent graphical levels. It doesn't need to be maxed out in 1080p with 16xAA
in DX11 to be taken seriously, but just as long as you don't record at ultra low at 320x240, it's not going to be a factor.

5. It's best to hide the HUD in some way, either by recording from a replay or obscuring the HUD with black
letterbox bars if you have a video editor with that capability.

Good luck!

Where do we submit entries, and can you have more than one?

Great idea btw :charge:

Sorry I should have included that info. I edited it into the rules (4 and 5)

Had decided not to enter, but at the last minute put this together, and hope it is at least entertaining.

End of the Old Ways

By Tomisama

3 minutes 39 seconds

(removed)

Edit: I must have read the date wrong (thought it ended today) or was it changed? With two more weeks to go I get another inspiration (who knows).

Something a little more interesting?

A Pesants Tale - 2:54

Still needs some work on the Vo vs track balance and portions of video.

Will repost when these things are corrected.

Edit: A Pesants Tale - 2:52

Revised May 15th (hopefully for the last time)

Official single entry made on the Tea House forum. Thanks!

I hope someone else will be entering this thing, I don't want to win by default

Would rather not enter.

Are there others posting in other places?

Tomi, there are four other entries here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?141184-The-Org-Presents-Total-War-Shogun-2-Creative-Video-Contest). A fifth entry was withdrawn so they could submit a better idea. Which segways conveniently into rule #4 - you can only submit one entry, so you will have to pick which of your two videos is your official submission.
