It is 1260. I started in early on normal difficulty and I am 1 point ahead of the Italions and French (both are tied at 93).

What I've learned--

If Bohemia revolts (with your help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ) grab it, 'cause it counts as a home land later.

In Poland dont build weapon upgrades. Go straight for a citadel/fortress so you can build a university-- a key point earner for you.

As Poland you get multiple points for conquering one province. Pick your targets carefully and don't piss people off. For example, if you go into Sweden, Denmark will eventually go to war with you 'cause they need Sweden. You don't need many provinces to max out your conquest points.

There is some luck invovled in marrying off your daughters. The Russians, Hungarains, and Germans could back-stab me at any minute. I marry their women and offer them mine as often as I can.

Why is it that the AI controlled danes always ignore sweden while its a rebel faction and the moment you conquer it the danes attack you thus ensuring their complete annihiliation the following turn? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I've seen the AI Danes do quite well. Seems to depend on what kind of a break they get vs. the Germans. In my games, the Germans garrison Saxony quite well. I think the Danes invaded Sweden with a too small force the first turn. This activated the Swedes and the Danes seemed to be mustering their forces when their country suddenly went into revolt. . . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif (I was putting 3 spies on Denmark every turn, they were catching about 1 every turn. . . not good, FOR THEM)

post-patch Danes are now expansionist, so expect them to be a little more aggressive.

My only additional advice is: ignore the impulse to expand east-ward. Lithuania and Livonia ain't worth it...full of rebels who will suck you dry while you're dealing with the HRE, French, and recalcitent Hungarians.

Go West, young man, go west. Drive to Rome, kill the Pope,, build up, THEN go east, to the rich tradelands of the middle east.
