View Full Version : bug or intentional?

This may have been posted before - but I was playing the English in Normal and found that after I upgraded to a Keep I could no longer build some things like a Trading Post (or later stuff like merchant etc), presumably because the rules say that a Fort is a prerequisite?

However, other things can be built later such as a Town Watch. I don't see anything documenting this behaviour and it doesn't seem sensible so I assume it's a bug.

Problem is, I want to rush through to building ships so I want to build a Keep very quickly.

Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks in advance

(PS - why is this the only forum I could post in?)

After Keep, go for Castle; then upgraded merchants etc. come. In other words, keep going http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

We keep you here in the Entrance Hall until we get to know you a little. Won't be long. So same advice, there: keep going (posting, in this case).

Thanks for the info http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It seems a little strange that I have to get to a Castle - do you know why that is? Assuming that it's intentional all I can imagine is that it's a sort of penalty for missing it out in the first place.

Well this might be a stupid question but did the province have any resources in it??? I usually had problems with that in my newibe days...trying desperately to build a trading post in Trebizond http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Yes you're quite right http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Good to see sensible posts in this game - other games you get noob lol or similar childish drivel.

I eventually realised it, but I've not seen it documented anywhere that this happens though.

My latest confusion is that Wales can only produce simple archers despite having a Bowyers Guild. If I read the chart correctly that's all I need for Longbows?

I was making similar mistakes as will (not reading the tech tree):

1. I was trying to build up buildings in Antioch and Jrusalem because the provinces could produce Footkights and other fun units. But only realized later than I couldn't get any of those unless I could manage to convert myself to Christian. (Ah I have an idea http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif )

2. I was trying to build those Janissary and Trebizon Archers and Cataphroi (sp?) units but couldn't because these are only available to Turks and Byzantium. Luckily, the Armenian Heavy Cav served me well.

Anyways, read the tech tree is important http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

The idea I had was to be able to convert oneself to another religion (the way STW allows to), even risking rebellion.

Second idea: modify the stat files to allow any kind of unit to any faction. This would be fun: as long as you are master of certain area, you can produce the units of that area.

Thanks - that would explain it.

Again I'm surprised since I don't see this documented anywhere including in the tech tree and the patch Read Me file.

The only tech tree I have is the fold-out paper that came in the game box. Is there somewhere else to read it?
