View Full Version : Over 500 posts can select an avatar from list.
Top grey control bar: your control panel, personal info, avatar options. The list contains about 200 avatars right now.

The SQL thing took way too long to sort out, hence I'm lagging with writing guidelines/faqs. Custom titles are disabled right now. Expect features to be added soon.

Methinks what the operation will be is this: You rach 500 posts, Tosa decides if you deserve a custom icon, and if so, you submit your image to him. He then gets one of us (me, or some veteran like Kraellin) to resize and put it in the MTW style, and then it's attached

But hitting 500 posts is not necessarily a guarantee of getting a personal icon, and spamming will actually count against you.

to answer orda's question, once you hit 500 posts i believe an option in 'your control panel', 'personal information', 'avatar options' is turned on automatically. this will show you a list of avatars to choose from. currently this list has about 200 pictures to choose from. they can be previewed in a little preview window next to the list. you click on a picture name in the list and it will preview the avatar in the view pane. this is a fixed list. you can only pick an avatar within that list.
if you look at the help topics you might also notice that there are other features that this board uses for avatars. in helping tosa test this board's functionality i could import my own avatar from another web site by linking to it, similar to how one posts images here. the image is stored somewhere else, on another site or server, and you simply link to it to have it displayed here. however, that option is currently turned off for everyone except mods and admins, i believe.
i also believe there must be a funciton where the actual desired image can be uploaded to the servers here and used exclusively by individuals. for instance, the mods and admins are using images not found in the current general avatar list.
the only policy that seems to be set so far for changing your avatars is the one using images from the fixed list. i believe the policy for custom avatars is still being debated or looked at or written up, and as such, there isnt currently any standard manner for obtaining one...yet.
personally, i like the new stages or ranks or status, or whatever we're calling it, for allowing more or fewer options to individuals within the board, and wouldnt even mind seeing this expanded a bit. show a little responsibility and contribute a bit here and there and your rank goes up and you get more features to play with accordingly. break the rules and policies consistently and your rank goes down and you lose some features. it's a built in rewards and penalties system.
you shld also be aware that your post count does not determine your how many extra features you get within the board, other than the 500 post count thing for picking an avatar.

i was something of a beta tester for the new board, so some things got turned on for me by hand (and some turned off again). i dont know what all it takes to turn these on for everyone else. you'll have to query the staff on that one.

I'm with Blackie. I spend up to 12 hrs. a day on this site (I have waaayy to much free time at work), but I only average 1 post a day because I'm like Mr. Ed. I only speak if I have something to say http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif It's frustrating to see people who joined after me have 3-4 times as many posts most of which were spam.
