Please don't flame me if this has been covered before. I tried a search but couldn't find anything conclusive.

Basically can you fight battles in seasons other than Wet/dry all in summer?

One of the Barbarossa campaign battles starts off in the snow but on the main camapign its all Summer maps. I have read the 1st battle summer, 2nd, Autumn, 3rd Winter etc but that never seems to hold true.

If this has been covered then I am sorry.

weather almost always seems to be a composite of a regions year round weather. I find this kind of annoying - i have never seen snow, and in defence, i don't remember the last time i saw the sun, give the ai has about 6 options of day to choose from.

Is it really hisorically accurate that all medieval battles were fough in poor weather, that's just plain unchivilrous.

ah right thanks. That makes sense as I usually head South at the beginning of the campaign as the Alhomads always seem to threaten Southern Europe early on so that's where my campaigning ends up. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Tomus, there have been reports of players seeing snow for some SP campaign battles. One person ever had snow in Sicily However, it appears to be a rare thing.

However, MP online you can select winter. That may not be an option in arid and desert terrain though.

AFAIK, the first battle you fight is in spring. Second in Summer. Third in Automn. Fourth in winter. So you have to make at least 4 battles in a single year to see snow on Europe.....

And I thought the developers of MTW is from England and they thought it rains everyday in other part of the world.

I played as Egyptians and luckily, I didn't have to fight the Elmohads early in the game, or would always have dust storms.

I did see snow and that's perhaps because I got a revolt (9 provinces got revolts forced me to fight 12 battles in two years).

ps.: I think the Summer-Autumn-Winter-Spring rotation is silly. They should be a bit more random. In old time, armies gather in Spring to be ready for summer campaign. But its not always the case. It takes a large army months to march.

I dont like snow anyway, gives the defender too much of an advantage, I usually chose fine weather , and if attacking in MP usually as rainy as it gets... heh, that should take care of the 3 kills made by archers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

I know that during the Winter armies would laager up and wait for spring before campaignig.

Its just that Snow is so damn atmospheric http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

The climate was much warmer then, grapes could be grown as far north as Sweden

It is also true that milatary campaigns were carried during the warmer months. Winter wars being rare is actually quite realistic http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. I don't know about the Minor Ice age though (years with no summer. Is the chance for snow increased after this event?

Certainly seemed like it in my Danish campaign, Stygious. My Vikings kicked butt regularly in winter battles; only trouble was finding those rebel buggers in white-out conditions. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I don't see never a snow battle, all my battles are under the sun or under the rain, never snow, no....

But it's certain, too that i have never played more than two battles in the same turn, maybe this is the reason...

I don't know.

Whoever said that the battles are spread across seasons is right. If you fight four battles in one turn, the fourth is in winter. The idea was that this would cycle round so the fifth battle was in spring again. But there's a bug which means every battle after the fourth is fought in winter - oops :)

The weather manager was not deliberately written to make it rain all the time - theories about the rainy outlook of UK developers notwithstanding. With the benefit of hindsight, the Shogun weather system was not altogether improved by the work we did on it. Oh well.

Hi GilJaysmith, thanks for helping us out in the Entrance Hall. All this time I thought the endless winters were a feature of my using Vikings in the north lands. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

LOL Gil. It just goes to show you how hard it is to predict weather - even when you program it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

If you want winter battles, play Shogun. Instead of one turn every year, there are 4 turns a year, one for every season. But, I'm sure most of you already knew that. Haven't played any Medieval yet, need to make semi-large upgrades to my machine (lousy 2 year old technology)

Welcome to the Org Foreign_Devil.

I'm playing MTW on 4 year old technology. What are your specs (if you don't mind me asking such a personal question http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )? My specs are minimum for SP and below minimum for online play and I'm running fine.

Go here for more info on my PC: My MTW Specs (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=2388)
