I recently bought and got into MTW, and while I am still rather inept, esp. in the strategic part of the game, it has piqued my interest in the subject matter.

Can anyone recommend a good reference on European medieval warfare? I'm very much interested in the historical aspects of this fine game, and would like to improve my knowledge base (and am no stranger to trudging through academia, so feel free to recommend anything).

Thanks.

just warfare? Just medieval?

if u want a history of Europe, From ancient to modern try out history of Europe by Normand Davies. Quite a thick book.

if you are interested in English history, try history of the english speaking people by Sir Winston Churchill

IMO, excellent references fastspawn. Fellas in the Monastary forum specialize in just the sort of thing you guys are discussing.

Personally, I like Will & Ariel Durant's series. Plenty of academic bibliography, while also a good quick read, to get the 'feel' of a period.

By the way, welcome to the Org, catharsis; cool name (wish I'd thought of it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)
