Everytime I try and play a new campiagn the game crashes back to my desktop but I can use the historical custom and quick battles games without a problem. I see on list of supported chipsets that mine isn't there but in the ingame help it says that just beacuse your chipset isn't listed doesn't mean it wont work.

Welcome to the Org terryblack825. May we call you terry or should it be Mr 825? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Seriously, that is a nasty and unfortunately not a rare enough problem. Could you give us some more information such as:

CPU
amount of RAM
graphics card (have the latest drivers?)
sound card
operating system
is the MTW patch installed?
at what point does the game crash?
anything else you think is important

Thanks.

1 ghz Amd Athlon
248mb
S3 Graphics ProsavageDDR
I'm not sure about the soundcard
Windows XP
The game crashes right after the load bar is full and for some reason a second red bar appearsabove the first one and sometimes the game sends me to the in game menu but when i try to select any of the options the game crashes. I haven't instaled the patch yet.
And as for what to call me any of those names will do.

I had this problem when I initially started playing. even though I already had the latest DirectX, I installed the one from the MTW CD and the game worked after that.

I've heard several people did what rpasell suggests and it fixed their problem. Try installing the DirectX on the MTW CD.

I tried installing Directx from the cd but it still doesnt work. I also tried installing the patch but that didn't help anything either. This is realy starting to suck if I can't figure this out I might just end up returing the game.

I went in the bios and I set up my sound card (SB 5.1 Live&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif to ''IRQ5'' then I set up the IRQ 5 to ''yes''

Hey Terry,

Make sure all your drivers are up to date.

It's dead simple to do with Windows X.P.

I used to think that the old update your drivers fix was something people said to be clever, when they didn't actually know what was wrong.

Until I had trouble playing my Return to Castle Wolfenstein game. I updated my drivers and everything was fixed.

Also, you might want to try tidying your computer through the defrag & disksweep.

You've got plenty of RAM but seem to be having a RAM related crash.

Hope some of this is helpful.

I have tried all of that already from diskcleanup and defrags and diskscans but no results I didn't try the soundcard thing though but I don't think that's it. By the way do any of you guys have S3 video cards because I think that might be the problem.

I don't have an S3 but you should what I said for the sound card. I know it looks strange but I had the same problem an this operation solves it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'll put a link in the Dungeon to this thread. Maybe one of the techies knows something. I found nothing there searching for your graphics card.

Terry,

I don't think it's your S3 Card. I used to run STW and MI on an AMD Duron 650, with 64 megs of RAM and an S3 Savage 4 graphics card. An oldie, but a goodie, I could play all my games with no trouble at all.

You've already said you can play custom and historical battles, so it shouldn't be your card.

On my old system, MI would lock occaissionally at the beginning of a battle, and on rare occaissions I would get a crash to desktop.

As far as I'm aware, this is mainly caused by your system being overtaxed. Your computer thinks deeply when you load the campaign map. Though you have more than enough spec to be running the game, for some reason your PC seems to be maxing out.

Is your Graphics Card 16 mb or 32?

Hopefully the Mods will either move or copy the Apocathery in on this.

The people there can hopefully talk you through a bit of configuring to get the maximum output from your system.

It sucks not being able to play your game. Hope you're sorted soon.

I tried setting the my card to 32mgs but I still cant play the campaign. I havent tried to change the settings for my sound card as you suggested Tarkins beacuse I'm afriad that it might screw something up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif . I sent an email to the the people at activision support hopefully they will be of some help if not then I'll just end up returing the game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

The worst possibility is that you will have to return in the bios to put the default back http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Well I finally figured out what was wrong it was my video card. For some reason the campaign map is not playable with an S3 card. I had to use an ATI card my uncle had laying around to get the campaign to work. So thanks to everyone who tried helping me out you guys rock.

Sorry we couldn't help you sooner terry. I guess it isn't the optimal solution but at least you are playing the game now.

Don't be a stranger around here now that your problem is solved, okay? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
