So a Crusade passed through two of my provinces, and dragged away a number of people from each unit (BTW, it's a real pain ). I have got these questions on unit repairing:

1. If a unit has an attribute bonus (e.g. +1 valor or armor) from the province where it was built, would it still keep the bonus if it is repaired in a different province that doesn't provide this bonus?

2. If a unit has gained valor from previous battles, would repairing lower its valor?

3. How is the repairing cost calculated?

BTW, I'm playing post-patch. Thanks for any hint.

1. I'm not really sure, can't say i have ever trained a unit with armour and weapons and retrained it immediately in another province. So you can do that test yourself.

2. The game keeps track of each man in the unit. Each has an individual valour. The valour of the unit is an average of these figures. Hence a high valour unit with 10 men in that is retrained to have 60 in does not lose valour, but the 50 new men drag the valour average down. Those origional 10 men will still fight with the same efficiency as before.

3. The cost is based on the number of new men trained. So retraining a unit that had lost half it's men should be half price, where retraining a whole unit to get good equipment costs nothing. A number of popele like to train units in provinces for valour bonuses, like longbows in wales and billmen in mercia, then ship them to sweden to be retrained and get good armour and weapons for no loss of valour.

Tell me what you found for 1. and another test i would like to see is - religious structures improve morale and military academies improve discipline. Does retraining a full unit in a lesser province, reduce these bonuses to those of the new province. so in other words can i train a billman in mercia, take him to wessex to get +1 discipline and a cathedral bonus to morale, then take him to sweden for a armour and weapon max out, and keep the best of all these worlds???

OK I kept a close eye on a unit that had armour upgrade and only 14 folks left, and got retrained in a province where there was no armour upgrade. The unit was retrained to full-strength, yet retained the armour upgrade. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As for valour, you are right, MonkeyMan. The game calculates the average valour of the entire unit every time, so any retrain would drag down the valour.

So your maxed out army idea might actually work, based on the above facts. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

ok in that case i think everyhting is done on a man by man basis with each man keeping better things. So your 14 man unit likely only had those 14 men with the full armour. I think each man if he has better morale and armour will ignore the need to retrain and get lesser stats but will always take anyhitng better on offer.

I believe the valour bonus from a province is kept up individually like the armor and weapon upgrades. To keep your unit maxed on this would require going back to that one province. Luckily i try and build only one type unit in a province, unless all hell breaks loose.

Hmmm, I doubt armour is tracked individually as valour is, otherwise my unit would not have carried the armour insignia after being refilled up to 60 men, because obviously the post-refill average would be closer to no armour upgrade.

Maybe they kept the armor of their deceased comrades and distributed it to the newbies. Makes no sense to leave expensive armor to rust on the battlefield. To the victor go the spoils. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

while on the other side, valour cannot be collected from the deceased - makes perfect sense for me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
