1st Query: I'm playing a Normal campaign as Brits, with the 1092 Mod, and I just took Flanders. It had a tavern already built and so I trained two assassins there. When the second one appeared, I checked him out to see if he looked cool http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif . Wouldn't you know it, he came with 5 stars Anyway, has anyone else had this happen to them?

2nd Q: Whats the highest rank your assassin can get?

Feel free to raise new assassin questions and tell your cool assassin tales. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

The only use I sem to get out of assassins is to aid my opponent. I valour up their priests, inquisitors, emmissaries to unbelievable levels The (very) few successes I have with them usually die on some foreign shore.

The 5 star assassin you got was Guy of Gisbourne, one of the random personalities sprinkled through the game. When you produce one of them, they typically have above average stats, or in Guy's case, extremely above average.

My highest non Guy assassin got to be level 4, but I tend to send them on suicide missions, so they don't last too long. As long as they take a bishop or priest down with them, I don't care http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You're right He is Guy of Gisbourne Thanks, that's some useful new information. In one of my Turkish campaigns, I managed to get a 6 star assassin (mostly be killing off really lame heirs). I sent him to kill the Khan of the Golden Horde, and he had a 60% chance of doing it, but he still died http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif .

In my spanish campaign I managed to get a 8 star assassin He was a great inquistor killer (the papacy send many of them). In the end I could kill several faction leaders up to 3 or 4 stars.

I've never seen an 8-star assassin, tho' some other players say they have. I generally 'train' mine by having them take out low-level emissaries, then move them near 'the front' to start taking out 0-star & 1-star generals. Gotta send several after 1 guy...playing the odds: 3 assassins with a 60% chance, 1 will get thru.

I just used Assassins very effectively in my single player campaign. It's about twenty years from the invention of gunpowder right now and I'm playing as the English. At the onset of the game, I came out swinging at the French and ended up utilizing some assassins to help thin out his command structure. I started off with his princesses and emmissaries so he wouldn't be able to secure alliances with neighboring Germany or Spain and ended up chasing down most of his military commanders as well.

It seems to me that Assassins are pretty effective early on in the game as well. If an Assassin kills a leader, doesn't that disband the troop the leader was with as well? They also mention that if a leader of an army is assassinated, the army suffers penalties for that turn. I did that for my invasion of French Brittany. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but the French seemed to retreat from my forces after fewer casualties than usual. Anyone notice simalar?

Wasn't aware that sometimes you get expectional assassins. I'll have to keep an eye out for them. One habit I should also try to start getting into is to bring a few assassins with my main armies as I expand so that I can have some bodygaurds on hand.

The AI in my single player came has started to pepper me with waves of assassins. France is no more, Germany was erradiated but returned with an army of about 1700 men and one providence. I've also destroyed Poland and started warring with the Byzantines. The Golden Hoarde stirrs in the east, bordering on my province of Lithawania. Italy and the Papal States await me to the south, the Muslims to the West through former Spanish holdings... most of the assassins seem to be Italian or Byzantine. At least most of the assassins that I am catching...

i tend to train most agents up passivly if i can... emisiarries just by going about simple tasks, assasins for taking our enemy emisiaries, leave inquisitors, preachers and spys in enemy proviences to build up thier stars... not too hard
