I have made several attempts to bribe other army generals and have not seen any results. Can anyone tell me what is supposed to happen after a bribe.

Thanks

You should get a popup saying how much it will cost to bribe him. If you don't mind paying the price, hit the check. Within a couple of turns you should get a box saying:

- that he demands more money (which you can agree to or not)
- that he will defect and will be ready in a few turns
- or that he is too loyal a won't join your cause

it sounds strange to me that you failed. are you sure you are doing everything correctly ( take the emissary, drop to the genaral , see the bribe scree, Afford the sum)?

by the way it easier and much cheaper to bribe rebels that enemy generals and the difference in the sum you are gonna pay is substantial. rebels usually go up to 3-4.000 , enemies go sometimes above 90.000

Also its much cheaper and faster i believe to bribe rebel armies. Never tried another factions army, though might start since im sitting on a nice 300k florins and seems ive ticked off most of the world heh.

Naagi you are correct. i ussualy end up with tons of money , sometimes above a million , the best way to use em is to bribe . i havent try to bribe a whole country ( all the army generals apart from the heirs and king unit)but i believe it would be cool to try.

I have accepted the terms of the bribe but I never got the message saying when he would be ready. I will keep trying and I will be more patient. Thanks for the advice.

If there is an army there you can bribe, you have enough money and you can get an emisary there; sure, why not?

If France has more armies in the same province you can even seek out the least loyal general and bribe him so you can attack them from the inside

Good plan. I've never had a successful bribe.

I have bribed many rebel armies. I usually eviscerate my own rebellious troublemakers but others beyond my borders make for easy pickings if you have the coin.

Besides, your emissaries can often reach rebels your armies can't making a bribe the only practical way to get at them.

You could have a problem bribing if the AI shuffles his forces. Sometimes a leader will be joined by another leader who is superior and, when this happens, your emissary doesn't get to bribe because your target general becomes just another unit in another general's army.

I've seen occasions when the AI will continually move troops in and out of a province, shuffling generals and, thus, frustrates my efforts to bribe a likely general.

This just brought up an idea. Im still playing that Byzantine campaign, and ruling it mostly. Anyway, Ive had some crazy rebellions in the old egyptian/turks area that showed green previous year, and its a pain to divert major armies their way. I may just place a dozen or so emissaries in the area and bribe em all next time they pop their ugly little heads.

btw i dont get a lot of time to play with two kids, thats why im still playing this campaign heh

Thanks for the welcome. I have lurked too long, time for me to speak up and share my thoughts. I read a lot of different MTW forums and I like this one the best.

I was trying to bribe the rebels in Naples (9 archers and 4 peasants). I thought it would be a nice addition to my army who just built a bowyer and start cranking out these archers. The cost is 2700, slightly higher than the cost of training archers myself, so I figure, that's OK.

However, the rebels decide not to accept the bribe. So I invade them with a stack of Urb-Mil and my worst Prince (get him some battles under the belt). The Pope decided to help, so I crushed the rebels, got 1400 confiscated from the rebels (didn't know they are so rich).

So I guess bribing doesn't pay in this case. I could train the archers with the money I use to bribe anyways, and I now end up 1400 bucks more in the bank. I had minimal casualty, but even if I did have casualties, these are Urb.Mil. anyways (1600 for the entire stack).

I usually get an emisarry and an assasin to Sweden as soon as possible. As said before you can get an emissary there even if you can't plant your army there. The assasin accomponies the emissary just in case the rebel leader has the vice that makes him hard (or too costly) to bribe.
