Man, those Vikings a a bunch of bad muthas It was in the early stage and I barely had an army, but I had 2 units of Vikings, one prince and his royal night guards, and a unit of archers, hardly an overwelming group of guys Well anyway, the peasantry in Mormandy didn't dig my taxing to the point of lunacy policy and revolted. I'm talking 3 units of archers, 4 units of peasants (not the baddest group of dudes, but still 800 smelly, teeth rotting, inbred, scumbags), and a 2 units of hobilars. Don't know were those indignant rabble got access to horses but I'll continue. I was perched high on a hill (I must say the view was great), and was at the ready. I marched my prince around the left flank, the whole time behind the hill, so that the opposing force could not see my deception. The fools charged dirrectly up the hill to meet my Vikings. I rain arrows down on the insulate buggers while they climbed. Half way up, I charged in It was a beautiful site of carnage I continued to fire volley after volley onto the hobilars, for some reason the stayed perched at the hills foot. At that point, thier lines wavering, I charged from behind with my knights. That was the straw that broke the camels back.
I know this wasn't some ingenious strategy or a huge desperate fight, but thats what I love about this game. Whether its 500 or 8000 troops duking ot out, their is always a grand sense of satifaction when well played tactics are imployed and you enemy lied vanquished before you http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Good thinking http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Note that usually a good trick is to spot the weakest unit (peasants, archers, etc.), charge them with your cavarly and make sure they start running towards the other units of the opposing army.

With a little luck, a routing peasant unit can trigger a massive loss of morale and the whole army just start running away ... As long as you chase them and manage to keep close enough, they will never recover ...

Always goods fun to see 1,000 spearmen and urban militia running away from 80 holibars ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Welcome to the Org, he that is known as daveinkorea. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Thanks for sharing the battle story. It is nice to do a simple hook to flank the enemy. It is altogether more satisfying when the enemy never sees it coming. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I like to kill the enemy general very early on if I get half a chance, so that the rest of them usually run off as well... it can get a little hard though if you are facing a 4 star+ general though because they will do the crazy rambo survival stunt and not die. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

It depends upon the situation as to whether or not I want the enemy to just run off the field without much of a fight. If the forces are small, let them run. If I'm faced with a larger force, I want them to fight a bit so I can get lots of kills when the do finally flee. I don't want these guys coming back again next turn, and the next, and the next...
