Well all to often now i see many people hosting games that have huge amounts of florins: let me remind you that this does not make the battle any bigger, every thing is in proportion.

Really you should not be hosting games above 15000 per person.
Im not saying you cant host high money games im just saying that the game was not designed for that much, the consequences are that its imbalanced. So when i see ppl coming back to the lobby complaining that "i outnumbered him 10 to 1 and still lost" consider the amount of cash used.

Thankyou.

99999 games are a pain because tactical genius is overshadowed by the fact that every unit is a super-unit.

Its not very fun, in my opinion, to just show super-units toward the enemy.

Ahhh 2 ppl have seen the light.

I totally agree as time goes by things may get better, because ppl make get more respect for what totalwar is

Agree...I mostly host 12-15k myself and I'm willing to join a battle upto 20k...

I just don't join those 99999 games.

Yeah, so irritating. I can't host, so I look up at the games and the only ones open are always 999999999 - which no freak is gonna play.

EDIT: I can't even be bothered to spend the time fannying around with all those florins on honour and weapons.

8,000 is my fave at the mo.

I'll join any battle including those having 100k, as long as it is 4x4. 25k/army is still a lot of money. They tend to fight to death more often and it is harder to spoof Byz.Inf. when it is maxed out. It also make the archers relatively speaking even weaker, as the effect of upgrading armour is greater than the improvement of archers.

I think 15k per person is about right. You are forced to think about what unit to upgrade and how much. At 25k or above, I simply chose the most expensive units and can still upgrade them all.

let the devs make morale +2 and start using 10k, which is uniform for everyone to see and calculate

I also dislike huge florin games. I like playing around 15k or less. The new upgrading costs made using high florins not as bad, but still i'd rather work with 15k or less.

I think it would be nice to lower upgrading cost for units and play around maybe a standard of 5k. I think if the standard was set somewhere between 15k-5k per player max and not being able to go any higher it will combine everyone. You will see newbies hosting huge florin games trying to get people to join with no luck at all. If you have a fixed range amount it will connect everyone together i think.

Of course you have people that love to play with huge amount of florins and won't touch lower florin games for whatever reason. Most people online after playing for sometime slide into the 15k range per player, not all.

I would like to see florins fixed at a certain amount so new players won't start out trying to play huge florin games and it will keep everyone in-line with each other.

When 1st started playing stw the games i've 1st started playing where around 5k. They were the most enoyable games i played. When i joined a high florin game i found myself upgrading units to almost full of everything and it was set huge unit size. The battle was a mess and units were fighting almost or to the last man. I found myself saying where is the fun in this...

thats why morale needs to be upvalued, florin of games lowered so we think harder what to upgrade.

i do play 99999 games but only when theres 8 players although ive had many an experience where i have most of my army and then i surroung and flank and completely dominate one unit only for it to rout 1 of mine and in turn start a massed rout, verry annoyed when that happens. to avoid these upsets i tend to play 20k or less games as these in my opinion r the most fun. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

i must say that these games are pretty pointless as on most occassion all the units will fight till the last man :s

a standard value should be set so we can all play with the same amount

i like low florin....
in fact i like it so low that one cannot feild 16 valor 1 units. this allows for more strategy and style in play.

i have been tainted, seduced by 10 to 20k florin games. i dont like it, these armies feel generic and predictable. alass, if i host a really low florin game in early(my preffered period) no one joins....yet give them 12k and watch them line up. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I'm actually indifferent in this issue, maybe because my playing hours is not high enough hehe.... . I think there is a bit strategy element in this one, As has been mentioned with 99999 florin ppl will pump up their units, units that route easily with 12000 florin may not rout as easy on this one which gives more surprises and variety.

Aside from huge florin, don't forget huge unit size, units also route harder with this setting, not to mention lags.

Postino, if I find you hosting such a game you can be sure I will join.

Early... Ahhh no arbs, bows rule
Low florin... ahhh, bows rule (Morale penalty of being fired at and no money for armour)

Either I am cynic or some of you are optimists http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

At 12k, you will hear more often: "Oh M'Gosh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif I found a bug The rout bug My opponent cheats He routed the whole of my army on contact http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/redface.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif "

Annie

ps.: I have a recording of my own army rout on contact... Nice rush http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

TenkiSoratoti

The fact that your army routed on contact my just mean that the person you were playing was that much better than you?

Alrowan

i find that each game has its advantages, low florin early games sees all byz armies, but the more florins, i find that you see less and less byz, something that is good

personally i dont like 99999 florin games, unless it mis 4v4, but even hen i tend to sway away from them..

however, if that is my only choice, ill take it, and battle beats none

Im very much in favour of games that host 15000 florins per person i feel that fulfills all the strategic needs of the game and makes it nice and balanced.

Anything that goes above 15000 really is a waste of your time. It may just be pot luck whether you win a game hosting lets say 30000 per person or 20000, the imbalances start to jump in here.

I may be wrong im just saying what i hope i have researched correctly.

Sorry to Soratoti: I was not clear in my post. I only refer to your post specifically about the phrase: "in time people will ..." I think there will be 99,999 florin games and frequency of such will not decrease much. The old saying is; "Babies are born everyday".

But I must agree with you: the more you are familiar with the game, the less likely you will chose 99,999 game, if there is alternative somewhere.

Back to the ps. part:

The fact that I have a recording that my own army did rout on contact too would dispell the notion that I am ridiculing people seeing army routing on contact. I only ridicule those who thought there was a cheat of some sort by the opponent when his own army was rout without much of a fight. And also, I am not recording only games that I won (even though I could be proud of a couple of them): I saved them because they are interesting. It is interesting even more that I let them rout me on contact (didn't do enough to prevent being flanked and rushed and nothing worst than being rushed by flankers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

Damn did I love that in STW. "You cheat How did you do that I'm gonna tell everyone". Most got over it once they knew how it worked, I don't think it's going to scare off the enthousiastic players. Probably only the ppl who would have left within a month anyway will drop out sooner.
