View Full Version : unacceptable behavior in GS forum

I was in the MTW lobby this evening, when a couple of players started insulting each other using the word "nigger." I find this deeply offensive, and before anyone rolls out the first amendment arguments, recall that the 1st amendment only applies to government regulation of speech--GS can ban users who insist on using such language. Now, my question is what, if anything can/should be done about this? Suggestions?

well although i personally dont take offence to what ppl say in the foyer, i agree it should be controlled as i fully understand it is not suitable for a lot of players that visit the foyer, hopefully a solution can be found http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Online behaviour is basically like each person's caracter. Each his own.

I do not appreicate such behaviour either. Anyone who behaves in this manner on any game I host, I request them to stop, if they refuse I use the ban command. It's the only way i can ensure that the games I host remain friendly & fun for everyone who joins them. Of course, the person has the right to recourse, and is always given more than 1 chance.

I would suggest compiling a standard of online behaviour rules so at those of us at the .org can enforce them.

EDIT: *in the other person's shoes* hey what are they talking about nigger is not offensive.

That's the main issue methinks that those who behave in this manner believe that they have the right to do so. Usually they do not think there is anything wrong with using the word "nigger", "nip", "arab". Obviously when they use the nation names they mean it offesively.

Yup just ignore them, and ban them from your games. If you want to do this, click on their name, then type #ignore and #ban

I must admit, I have a number of players #ignored on my machine.

People who I find offensive or cheat I ban and ignore. Its a pity this action has to be taken, for a few stupid people.

However, we DO NOT HAVE AN ADMINISTRATED chat room, so whats the answer.

if u think the mtw server is bad go have a look see in the battlefield 1942 server.........

examples include:

"nigger jew" "nazi" "queer" etc. and for sum reason a lot of americans on it feel the need to call all the axis players Nazis at sum point, and in many ocassions when i point out that the germans troops wherent nazis i get a mouthfull.

well due to the nature of that game im sure you can see that the ppl it would attract a minority would be like that :s but thats just life .. i think its only polite to be respectful of your surroundings, there are many ppl from many different places, that can find different things offensive some things cant be avoided but abusive foul language can .. personally i dont see the point in being offensively rude to ppl

heh, I love #ignore, there are about 15 to 20 people on it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif ,including spammers, "I'm the best want everyone to know it -so I whine to everyone all the time- people",flamers and banned a few who called names in game.

Think I'm gonna unignore them all, and restart, some might have changed their ways http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

Heh u're lucky there that u aren't german. I never played Battlefield but heard lots about "Kraut Bashing" when a player says he's german.
I played CS for a few months last years and on many US or English Servers german people are insulted just because they are german. There are many of those stupid guys who haven'T yet recognized that WW2 is over and Germany is now a democratic state and an allie of the US or UK.

When he was in New York to work for Mercedes my brother was asked if the people in Germany still live in hats or if we got electricity or fridges. Ok on the other hand there was a guy who knew the whole history of Prussia.

But there are still many prejudices against germans and Germany e.g. "all germans are nazis" or stuff like that. Being so "overproud" of themselves some english and American people seem to forget that many important inventions were made by germans and at last "a slice of American lifestyle has a german filling" (dunno where i read this).
okok i got a little Off-Topic here but i've also met some of those crazy guys in the GS-Lobby who had the opinion that "all germans should be shot".

But as there's not much u can do against such a great stupidity you simply have to ignore those peeps and that's what most of us do...

Total agreement with VEX.
There's no place for it here although compared to other game servers the TotalWar community is generally more peer regulated with the majority of peeps lending a moral hand to those insulted.
Although the original Shogun server saw very little of this activity.
