Speaking to Grizzly earlier on this point, has brought me to the point of a post...
I hate complaining...but it gets me down..and also dear Grizzly & probably many others.
Why do people SWEAR in the foyer....
PLEASE people can we have a small peace of respect for the players/members/viewers who do not wish to see these words on ower screens..
We must try & remember that the foyer is veiwed by a wide range of ages...
I dont no about u but we must learn to control what we type..
I dont like it when people start foul mouthing other players on screen,my children some times sit with me
& watch me fight...go here dad ,,go there dad...lol,let me have a go ??

So plz keep it down...or just settle it on the battle field http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
If not maybe CA will introduce a BOT to keep this annoying menace away..
Sorry for complanning
Best wishes

Amen. I used to play a game called Nox that had a filter language feature. Unapproved words would read as $*2 or some such. They should be able to do it here.

Yeah I don't mind the occasional curse word, but most of these kids can't form a sentence without using a curse word like 5 times. Its pretty annoying.

I swear in foyer, but barely ever in the public part of it. I say hell more then anything. But I keep my swearing to my clanmates, and freinds of mine.

indeed, while i am quilty of it, i prefer "creative curses" to plain ole' four letter words.

Well said Toda , sometimes in my now rare apperances online
my son will watch . It can be embarrasing to try to explain some of the words . You dont have to swear to get a point across , infact to resort to swearing is a sign you have lost the argument.
So lets hope for a more mature approach online .
But dont hold your breath guys .
MizuDune .
p.s toda , sam still looks for u when ever i go online
I hope to be more regular soon .

My advice :

#ignore
#ban

Got around 25 people on #ignore and 5 on #ban.

#ignore username
#ban username

You don't see any messages the person called username sends, it works with other names too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif.

For me it's not the swearing as much as is it the constant insulting and near pornographic stuff. The swearing is pretty senseless, but some of the insults and things people tell other people to do, its really disgusting.

Lately there's been a new trend in filthy playernames and battle names.

One prob is that many of the current crop don't visit here, never been socialized.

#ban ichi

wtf!!!!

he's still there!

:)

the old clans and vets have left the foyar to the munchkins, it can be fun and amusing to have a go at the trouble makers, and wash their mouths out with soap in the foyar, virtually speaking, then tan their young hides on the battlefield... ~:)

I'm in the same boat as most of yous. I also hate the swearing during games and in the lobby. I also have my son there watching at times and it's sad I have to keep him away when he enjoys watching. I'm glad that is one of the rules of being in the Hunter Clan, too bad not everyone can adopt this same principle. Happy Hunting!

Unfortunately that is the way the new generation are today.
Swear words and filth seem to be the norm.

It's no different in the RTW lobby.

I'm no prude but, some of the comments being made are far and above the accepted standards of decent people.

My, this is an old posting resurrected. ~;)

If we were all sitting in a room together, and everyone could see each other, I doubt very much that the above mentioned behavior would take place.

We almost always have women and children in our midst on line. You can’t tell from the names, how old people are, or what sex they are, or who’s sitting by their side while they play.

My educated guesstimate is that a full 2% of the online population at any given time is female. That almost guarantees that there is always at least one in MTW-VI, and three or more in RTW foyer most evenings. And for a fact, I know we have mothers and sons who play together. Yes really!

How do I know all of this stuff? I get letters from them in the Code of Honour email. They all wholeheartedly support The Code, and are so thankful that there are people who are trying to make a difference.

People will do to you what you let them do. If you don’t want your game trashed up by this type of behavior, you have to say so. There was a time in Shogun Total War, that if anyone stepped out of line, they were immediately hammered by three, four, or more, honourable players. That’s what it takes!

Just do it! And support each other. Demand decent behavior, and you will get it! The game foyer is a public place, and like any other public place anywhere in the world, common human decency is "the rule". There are just some people who haven’t caught on to that yet.

Give them the message!

I'm glad someone dredged up this thread. I had to sit through one such 'display' in my session last night.

My problem is that a lot of players use strange characters in their username and, due to the Gothic-y type font, it's near impossible to work out what these actually are. I'm sure the ones who set out to cause trouble use this to their advantage, knowing it's a p.i.t.a.

I expect that, by the time I've worked out what Alt-0123 type combination gives what character, it'll probably be too late to be relevant. If I have to stop to respond to chat from the players who I do want to speak with, then I'm likely to have to stop halfway through getting it worked out.

So, the questions for today are...

1) can I use wildcards like #ignore ????xyz where ???? is characters I have to guess at and xyz is regular qwerty keys?

2) do these ignores and bans perpetuate between game sessions? (i.e. is an ignorelist file saved on my system at some point and reloaded in later games?)

3) I know that Chatmonitor is a bot but, other than that, why is swift action not being taken against the loose-tongued?

The lists do last until you remove them or logon as another name.
One hard to find character is the |. It looks a bit like a lighting bolt in the chat menu and is found below the backspace key. I've read that you can somehow click on the offenders name so you dont have to type it in. But dont remember how to do it. :dizzy2:

Just click on the player's name, and then issue the # command.

Many thanks to Rom and Puzz3D for that tip.

Just click on the player's name, and then issue the # command.

Very handy. I'll give that a try, if I ever need to.

The crosstalk is pretty bad with all the mtw-only players at the moment.

It's a pity they didn't think to have a common lobby, where everyone can meet up, plus two sub-rooms, one for each of the two major versions.

We had meeting rooms in addition to the main lobby in Shogun, and it was very useful before we all got hooked-up on private comms. Then I guess the rooms didn’t get used much anymore, so were not included in the next release. I wish they were still there for certain purposes.

We also had a one game lobby then, without the confusion of who is where that we have now. The intent was a good one, keeping folks in touch across game releases, but the result is chaotic in my opinion.

I think the best thing would be if you could visit the other games lobby, but two in one is nuts
