I agree. Why not have that feature??? Theres no reason to leave it out. It would benefit many people.

Nobunaga0611,

There is a reason to leave it out. In order to have multiple chatrooms, some other feature or features would have been left out.

i may ask, wich features has left been out?

the permanent desktop drops?
greyed out players?
games wich dont show up?

we all accept this lovely bugs, but what has left been out for the rooms?

well at the moment having to host a game to talk to someone privately is a bit stupid, chatrooms are are rewuired feature imo.

The foyer at the moment is a MASSIVE problem and i personally feel it has probably scared more ppl away than any ingame balance issues .. CA take note

Kocmoc,

It seems to me that we aren't going to get multiple chat rooms before something like greyed out players and drops to desktop when hosting is fixed. Incidentally, I don't get any drops to desktop when hosting as long as I restart MTW after each game. That also fixes the greyed out names in the playerlist.

heh...seems like you are saying:

"The game doesnt drop me to desktop if I voluntarily drop myself to desktop after every game."

Although true, I can't really see the difference.

I'm also not convinced that adding chat-rooms would be overly difficult. They had the coding done for STW and MI and it seemed to work fine (i'm not a progger so if I am wrong forgive me). The problems with drops and greyed names seem far more complex than adding a simple chat room-- basically, adding another foyer.

Anyway, I'm not expecting much. Just hoping the Invasion will fix some of these issues.

Dion,

Well there is a difference because the game won't always ctd on the next hosting, but players may not be able to see your game. You have to relog anyway to reset the player list and a restart of MTW at that point is not a big deal. But lets relegate these issues to a lower rung on the "jobs to do list" and get those multiple chats rooms working. Then you'll be able to ctd out of different rooms.

To quote myself from the "Do u feel let down by the developer?" thread:

...I remember some discussion about the wonderful things CA would provide via GameSpy for those with the will and know-how to run their own ladders, leagues and other good community building features. There was talk of "rooms" for various languages too. The whole GameSpy features aspect seems to have died right from the start. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif It also seems to have been forgotten by everyone.

Last I checked that thread, no one voiced agreement (or disagreement) with that statement. So maybe nobody does care. Or it has been forgotten.

Yeah, unless there were some sort of technical conflicts, I don't know why this would have been left out, other than maybe they ran out of time. If it's already been done by them, as it has in with MI/WE, I wouldn't think it would take more than a small amount of time to add this feature. I could easily be wrong though. I remember back before we had the total number of players in the foyer at the bottom (the number itself), and the reason for this Gil said was just because they didn't feel it was necessary, or not important enough to be added in. This could play a role in not having multiple chat rooms. Maybe not the whole reason, but a part.

I seem to remember all those promises too...shame they empty ones. I really can't see the difficulty in giving us a chatroom feature like we had in Shogun. In fact now I think of it all aspects of the Shogun foyer were better than this one
