this topic is the same as the logfilereader thing but i thought with this title i will attract more people! just some smart marketing.

the programm will show everything about my regular army and yours when u ever fought me...
-----------------------

Dear guys
I made a VB programm to read your battle log files. It is easy to use and will reveal more data than u can find in the logfile by just reading it with Notepad or so.

Example:: The programm also determines the after battle koku worth of the army

i also made 2 scenarios and included it in the programm.

u can get the programm at www.mongols.club.tip.nl (http://www.mongols.club.tip.nl)

wait and watch the animation above (100 kb).

then

look in the left frame, go down
press the shogun button and Voila

See left, the whole setup is 5mb! unzip it and setup as normal

if u have all dll's and ocx files u can imagine u can just download the exe file (136 kb, see right).
The exe file is a newer version than the one in the package. so u can overwrite the old file with it.

I will be away for three days with the family (earhunting), and ofcourse there are some minor points to improve.
The koku value of all troops per honour is just 97% ok. and i must add multiplay for games more than 1 vs 1.

Please do not mail me but put all your comments in here. I am sure u will like it. Greetings

Magyar Khan.....

Dragon, do not get all the honours for you alone mate !! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif I was there too remember?

So, how did we beat him? well I used the Bullfrog manoeuver which is like the Honston/Mankenst backloop but without machinegun backup. Easy.

OK You got me.

I avoid these kinds of threads but since you tricked me into opening it I'll tell you what I think.

I thought this was going to be a tactical discusion and what do I find? Allusions to some kind of "secret" cavalry strategy thing. Is there something interesting to share or not? If there is then alluding to it without talking about it is, well, rather rude, don't you think? "I know something you don't know! NA! NA! NA NA!" It sounds like there could be some good stuff here but nah, "We can't tell you..." Pretty weak. I can't be the only person to have noticed. Surely no one believes that some sort of "non-disclosure" policy is in effect.

I don't expect the "secret" beans to be spilled on my account. I don't care beyond enjoying a good read about tactical stuff (which is what I thought I was going to get)but I guess it just isn't coming. Fine.

I suppose teh best way to win against Maggie is to host a game then hit the ESC key! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

No, seriously, why not just play him and then make him eat crow by posting how your battle went and how be beat you (apparently it's a foregone conclusion) and then we'll all know.

YOU GUYS ARE AWARE THAT HE POSTED THIS TO PROMOTE HIS NEW TOOL HE MADE NOT TO TELL YOU HOW TO BEAT HIS ARMY, RIGHT?

that's what happens when you put on misleading titles (as he so admits); so don't think anybody's getting off the hook about this despite the fact that this is all about a program and not what was "advertised"

soly, I'm not out to make anyone eat crow or offend anyone either. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif I have no great games to talk about. But who cares? This thread inadvertantly brought something to my attention that I think is kinda surprising when all is said and done if you consider the usual congeniality of this forum.

I thought a good post mortem battle report was in the offing and got an implied refusal to discuss a game that in fact does indeed refer to the thread topic. Namely a battle involving a Mongol style army with I guess a lot of cav archers. Cool I thought. It occured to me as I read through that apparently Magy, Metha and DragonCat had a great game but won't describe it EVEN WHEN ASKED. So I thought "This is strange. Why not? What the hell? What's the big deal? Surely it isn't about some sort of trade secret."

As I said, I stay out of tourney/ranking related threads so perhaps there are conventions with which I am not familiar.
Is competion around here so intense that games are played under a shroud? Does the victor over a tough opponent gain extra notoriety somehow if the tactics used remain unknown? It seems to be OK to advertize a win so long as you don't say how you did it. Rather puzzling.

As I said, I was just looking for an interesting read and wound up where I normally don't go.

Nelson, Magy got his "#1" spot and he doesn't want to lose it. Sure, he complains a lot about being bored with nobody ever beating him (well, almost) but he's lying. Sure, it would be a real challenge for him if he gave away his Mongol strategy and the tactics to defeat it, because then he'd have to come up with something new and not use the same old thing over and over and over like a friggin robot (hell, he might as well write a script for the computer to do it for him), but I guess he's not up to the challenge; he's too cowardly to take it up. Oh well, what did you expect? All the "elite" players are like that. Sticking to the same old thing. No wonder he gets bored.

many players are free and easy with talking strategy on this forum - just check out the threads about flanking and cavalry.
I have to agree somewhat with the whole ridiculous notion of playing under a shroud, the fact is you can taunt and tease about a winning strategy, but unless it's done with the intention to help others there's really no point in it. the internet is a fast place and no matter what the ranking is now, it will be forgotten by the next day as new players enter the mix.

between equal players it is mostly all about rock scissors paper

i am on my 2nd Quest and will leave the ranking for what it is

my mongol army which consists of 10 horse units is easy to beat when u know i am deploying them and when it is nice weather

a battlerecorder will reveal the real tactics used. imagine a site where we can host our battle record files for other players to show.

and the battles against dragon and metha vs me and bong were exciting but not a show of brilliant tactics..... strangly in all the 3 games the defender lost!

Easy! Send a legion of starving, naked eunuchs against him in a kamikaze frontal charge with steak knives and forks for weapons. When his men are laughing hysterically on the ground, the marauders will literally eat them alive! It works every time...

Corrollary:
Not even a full volley from musketeers will dishearten these ravages souls... unless they are vegetarians or pacifists, in which case, shame on you: they will turn on their general and have him for dinner!

(You can get these units by getting 16 honor 0 arquebusiers and selecting rain as the weather when attacking).

Vanya
11-30-2000, 01:45
Almost forgot! Don't forget to have them shoot at each other (if clear weather) to embolden them prior to the frontal assault. In rain, you need not motivate them at all.
