why would an experienced player want to whip up on newbies or less-experienced players if it will only result in a loss of honor for the pro?
i get pretty disappointed if i play a newbie and win easily, so i usually try to help them out afterwards with a few tips and even a friendly so they don't get frustrated or feel cheated and will come back and play more often.

Im looking forward to the next patch,so we can see the honour of those we challenge.
Because i like going for the best players.(Its the best way to learn)
And this way they have no excuse.Because if they are worried about honour, then we can just challenge them to friendlys.
In fact all you top hundred players should consider playing more friendlys with us lower ranking players.
And do what Solypsist does.(Have a little chat, give out a few tips.)
You'll a ll get much respect for being so sporting.

Yeah guys,

Even Erich Hartman the world's greatest living(?) Ace with 352 confirmed aerial victories was a newbie at one time. In fact it took him quite awhile to start hitting his stride, but with patient training look what the Luftwaffe got in return!

Who knows what newbie out there is the next Subadai Lives http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I almost beat Subodai Lives once, it was the best game I have played online! I had no idea what his record was, and was absolutely gutted to realise how close I had come to being a giant killer!
On the subject of newbie vs veteran I must say that I think the honour system has created a two-tier community. On the one hand you have the vets with high honour, on the other hand you have the newbies or the incompetant (like me!). The newbies need to play vets in order to gain experience, knowledge and honour. Playing people of your own level simply does not produce enough honour for you to progress in the rankings. Unfortunately the vets do not want to play comp games against low honour players because they will lose their hard won honour even though they will probablycrush their inexperienced opponent. I have seen any number of vets host games and only accept players with a high honour. Where does this leave us low scoring types? It leaves us fighting amoungst ourselves and getting no where while the top ranking players merely swop places in the top 100 every now and again. You may say that a newbie can learn from the vets in friendly games, but by and large the vets are too concerned with maintaining their honour and challenging each other. This is a generalization of course, but I believe it to be an obvious trend.
Don't even get me started on redundant names and ranking campers, which are one of my pet hates. 8000 players above me in the rankings when it is always the same small number of usual suspects on EA.....mumble, grumble....they say I'm paranoid, but they are just out to get me.......

I frequently end up playing beginners, mostly because I usually play low koku games (about 2000) which tends to be the type new, less confident players are more inclined to play (no one likes to learn MP by having to control a 10,000 pt juggernaut), so my honor fluctuates constantly.
But I'm still top 100 http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif so it really does matter to play anyone, newbies against newbies or whatever.

well if you beat 30 people at 89 honour then you will be right up there with the top 100 so you all keep working on it and then you can fight with them. but i think people of low ranking should fight others of low ranking it is the hiarchy of things i just wish more of the people with high honour fought each other then you would see people pass the 170-180 honour in a short amount of time. I my self don't care who i fight just as long as i get your Scalp http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Somebody's got to show us newbies the ropes. Left to our own devices, playing only against each other, we will never figure everything out. Actually played my first MP games last night. Sweet! Thanks to all the guys who were willing to play me. One Q though - do friendly games not count at all? I played 3 or 4, but my record says 0 played. I take it that they're just like practice, and competitive is where the honour changes take place?

Yep, that's right.

Friendly games are a great way of gaining experience - I played lots of them before playing competetive - but nothing beats the tension of a good competetive game.

Take your time Heims and get familiarized thoroughly before jumping into the comp fray http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif People can behave differently when their precious record is on the line, and it's not always for the better http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

But cheer up! There are more of us that just like too play, and won't stoop to questionable tactics NO MATTER WHAT http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

When you're ready give us a call http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
