Well we've all heard about the unrecorded victories, or the undeserved losses due to escapist, but have you ever gotten an undeserved win? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

It was just a friendly, but damned if I didn't rout due to some hidden morale algorithm or some-such crap. Now I'm in "wait for battle to be resolved", the attackers chasing when BAM!!! Victory screen http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif

Chalk it up to a friendly Kami? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

ya it happens once in a while, but it's just the victory screen that gets 'mixed' up or whatever the reason is - ie. if its a competitive game you will still have the loss counted correctly
(at least that's how it worked so far)

I had a whole spate of sudden victories yesterday. Had my partners in stitches cos I was complaining about it so much.

But, I actually felt cheated. There I was hacking away at the enemy and suddenly just when I thought I was finally getting the upper hand BAM the victory screen.

No mass slaughter, no chance to humilate my opponent by chasing his surviving troops right across the map. Just the end. In one instance I know my opponent still had formed units of monks on the top of the hill I hadn't temped down yet.

As far as I'm concerned the game isn't over until the last enemy is dead or off the map and the program should keep it's nose out.

Sometimes, I rout my last units, when my situation is desperate and I don't care waiting for my opponent to cross all the battlefield to destroy them.

Perhaps your opponent did the same, didz?

I'm with Didz on this one! There is nothing quite so Anti-climactic as working your tail off to get the win and to have the pleasure of mass slaughter taken away from you just because the enemy routed with no chance of recovery!

This is especially frustrating with the occasional 4x4 free-4-all's online where most kills wins! To be denied those last
3-400 kills as your last enemy runs off the field can make or break victory in those circumstances (Anyone who hasn't partaken in this type of conflict really should, especially if you are as bloodthirsty as I am).

If it's a 1v1 and all but one or two of my units are running and being pursued, I'll rout the last one or two units. In chess, it's considered to be a sign of respect for your opponent to resign if you're in a hopeless situation, and the only way for you to win would be a serious blunder on his part. Many good players actually expect you to resign if your game deteriorates beyond a certain point, and will get offended if you make them "play it out". I can see, if you're counting casualties, this wouldn't be the case.

Um,
I was talking more about an undeserved win, not about being deprived of a chance to satiate my bloodlust http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanx JayDee, I was wondering what would happen in a comp game. If the end results are correct, and both parties are honest enough to admit the results then cool. What about the guy that adamantly sticks to the "I had the victory screen so I won"? I can see some ill-will being generated by a simple programming glitch http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

well, it happened to me a few times, we both got the victory screens, we came back to the room, we talked, we were both surprised, neither of us wanted to believe it, but we acknowledged the fact it happens, we checked the results and that was the end of it. as it should have.
if you happen to come across some moron who just can't get over it, well, there's not much you can do to prevent him from talking crap, but i wouldn't worry about it too much as the truth (as in if he's not a good player, or just a loser or something http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif )should show up rather quickly...

Blackship,

Sorry! got carried way. But its the same thing really. Because when the system steps in early to award victory it not only denies us the satisfaction of the rout and slaugther but also denies our opponents the opportunity to rally their men and stage a last minute comeback.

So both players are cheated and the battle is left with a sort of 'what if' question hanging over it.

This poor thread was resting there at the end of the list, and asked me to bring her up, because she haven't seen a fresh post for more than 5 years already! As you see, I couldn't resist her...

Well, my least deserved battle in the stw was a quite decisive one (its cause has slipped from my memory..). Despite being outnumbered, we managed to fight back bravely, but we had to yield superior numbers. My entire army run away, and I couldn't make out, why does the battle last still.. In the end I discovered a forgotten unit of my army, but fortunately, the opponent couldn't do this and when time was over my samurai were victorius over the haughty enemy! :devilish:
