I read it in a preview. The current version of PCZone (March 2003) has a two page preview of the game.
In the second paragraph it states
Quote[/b] ]Rome: Total War covers the period from the Punic Wars starting around 264BC, through to the rule of Augustus as Imperator of Rome ending around AD14.
looking good shadeWofl keep it up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
ok then, cool. 264BC to 14AD should be enough time to destroy my enemies. thanks ShadesWolf
Shouldnt some one get www.rometotalwar.org ? in keeping with this websites grand traditions http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Actually the timeline for RTW hasnt been fixed yet... like a lot of things any info you get right now is subject to change.
The best i could get out of the Producer was "these things are still TBD".
