I just wonder how fast computer you will need for R:TW?

Hendon i might be mistaken here but i think it is 900Mhz or something near that.

I think anything over 1ghz would be enough to run the game, the developers said that they are running it on a 900mhz laptop though with a gf2 and it works but its still to eraly to know.

I think's in the totalwar.com, where they say that for now it's at 900, but they're currently in the proces to of optimizing the game.

Seeing is believing...

Acceptable performance in my book requires smooth frame rates at all times with decent resolution (1024x768) using maximum unit sizes. I hate to dial back on graphics. My guess is that my AMD XP 2000+/GeForce4200 rig will fall short.

I bet 2Ghz with a GF44200 will be more than fine mate.

But well...4v4, huge unit size...would lag a bit on virtually any machine. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Acceptable performance for me is smooth gameplay in 4v4 @ normal unit size with 800x600.

I remember warrior kings thinking omg that looks great and my sytem is above the min specs, so i bought it and it ran like poo on the lowest graphics settings and looked terrible as well I hope rome totalwar doesent turn out the same, Warrior kings looked better graphically in the screenshots published before release than rome tw does.

I just wish that games would dispaly useful specs requirments. It should be this:

Min specs:
Can play game on lowest graphics smoothly
640x480x16, no smoke, etc.

Recommended:
Can play game with fair graphics
800x600x32, smoke and other special effects on.

Ideal:
All graphics to the max and still like 40fps
1024x768x32 (at least), every special effects option on, and then maybe high res mods for the game

But no game is like that. Errr
It's always safe to double the min requirments and then you got your game running good.

hmm I remember what they said about C&C Generals in September 2002:

"It runs good on a P3 with 800 Mhz and a GF2 MX Chip"

I got a 1300 Mhz pc with 265mbram and gf 2mx (crap) and it runs quite ok at 1024x786 and medium details (Skirmish).

I suppose I'll buy a GF4 4200 in the next weeks and some RAM. A 1800 xp+ maybe later.

Costs: gf 4200 ---- 150 Euro/$
xp 1800+ --- 80 Euro/$
512mb DDRRAM 75 Euro/$

I suppose these numbers will be enough for playing it fine.

My primary concern is the gamebalance.

I try to believe CA, maybe they find a better algorithm and hence if we can play mtw we can play rtw

I'll repeat it here: the development code runs on my P3/900 Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. This was a top of the line machine when I bought it, but things have moved on... However, it's got 512Mb RAM, and a 32Mb Geforce2Go card and, while the frame rate is not up there with other machines, the game *is* playable.

I'm rather impressed with this, as we are talking about dev code here, and nothing has been optimised as yet. My respect for the Rome programmers knows few bounds, even if they are far too clever and would have been burned as witches in more benighted times. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Vanya

GAH

Vanya suggests that the devs try out mp AND sp play on their min spec pc. Vanya thinks the min spec should support the max play, ie, 4v4 using all max-sized units... and perform smoothely without visual choppiness.

Olde Shoggy would experience lag, but would rarely suffer the choppiness mtw suffers from when lag hits. Vanya wants the camera and controls to work smoothely as they did in Shoggy. Vanya finds the frame drop of mtw (so it can "keep up" GAH Let it lag ) difficult to deal with. Vanya often time cannot respond in the game simply for no other reason than the frame drops kill the smootheness. By the time the camera actually rolls, it jumps instead of slides... and seconds transpire at that... and its too late Game over http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Please oh please make sure that the game operates SMOOTHELY on your min spec pcs, not just your old top-of-the-liners from the days of lore...

GAH

Of course, by the time RTW comes out, Vanya will have an uber-pc, so the rant in that respect is academic. But Vanya is just looking out for the other "less fortunate" souls out there... Vanya wants them to have a chance to admire their men flee from Vanya's legions in all their glory and gore... Seeing them flee with frame drops... well... it just makes it seem so... so... unintense...

GAH

Thankyou.

I have a friend who is playing C&C Generals with high graphics setings and 800 x 600 res..

The thing is, he is using a PII 450, 196 MB of SDRAM and a 32MB GeForce2MX 200 It is truely amazing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Well, why dont u buy a highly overclockable CPU, like mine, i got my *AMD AthlonXP 1800+(1.53GHZ) running @ 2.123GHZ. which is very good. ^^, bought it for 135 OZ dollar.

* - Thoroughbred CORE only

or u could buy an AthlonXP 2400+ T-bred and overclock it up to 3 GHZ beast. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
