Have a great screen shot? A funny one? A heroic last stand? Something weird? This is the place to post them.

To make this more friendly to the dialup patrons and those with lower resolution display settings, I'm suggesting the following guidelines (subject to change):

1) Try to crunch the screenshot down to the smallest file size that still shows the details clearly. First you will need to convert the TGA format screen shot to a JPG or GIF via a graphics/photo editor. I've found that 35kb-50kb is usually about as small as I can crunch a JPG file and keep the image sharp and colours fairly true. Another trick to reducing the file size is to crop the screen shot so that the uninteresting parts (unit banners along the bottom, etc) are cut out.

2) Keep the width of the image to 600 pixels or less. Otherwise those with 800x600 resolution will have to hassle with a horizontal scroll.

Feel free to supply any descriptive text you wish.

Here are a few more from a Viking campaign I started. First up is a very nice summary parchment with V&Vs gain by all generals/royals during the turn:

Next up is two shots of archers using fire arrows against a fort. The first is a long view and the second a close up of the arrows speeding towards the fort.

The GREAT Beserkers, can anything be more Viking than this ? Fierce, Fast, Tough, VERY reliable in battle.
In this shot they hit a 100 man unit of spears from 3 sides. You can see what is left of that unit by the arrow. The General unit was just close by in case something went wrong. I have had valor 6-8 Hashishin in MTW, but it took ages to achieve that status. With Beserkers, I already have a unit at Valor 6 after 4 raids .

http://webplaza.pt.lu/shahid/images/mtwscreenshots/viorgposts/faris17.jpg

Although the Faris did pretty ok in this test, they were down to about 70% strength when the CMAA unit routed. Both the Faris & the CMAA were valor 4. I have the impression that in a frontal attack the Faris fared poorly against CMAA of equal valor.

Arab Infantry, capable attack swordsmen. Like most Muslim units in MTW, these are portrayed as desert troops. Weak in armor, and incapable of holding against most an enemy attack. they are however an addition to the game as a needed Muslim swordsman unit.

The red arrows point to the shields, in this shot it is not very clear, but like the shields for the Faris, the Arab Infantry have ornate Middle Eastern Shields. This reflects historical reality where the Arabs took great care & pride in aesthetic weaponry.

Tomorrow I should get time to post some more of the cool Hungarian units in action. Here's a last one for today. It's good in the sense that you can see more than you usually can in this screenie. I don't know how it got streched like that. It's prolly a bug shot. The right side of the screen I could not see at all when I took the shot, as I was facing the left side with the little forest.

By the way did nayone notice that these MTW guys are left handed swordsmen. I don't know about European swordsmanship.

In Kendo & Kenjustsu (Japanese Sword Arts), the left hand is the one that is mostly used to cut. The right hand is used to guide and direct the cut. Except for right handed only moves, naturally.

Hi peeps,

In order to post images you need to do the following:

1. Just click on the image tab in the reply post window
2. It will ask you to provide the hyperlink to that image
3. Paste it in there
4. And there you go.

The image has to be hosted somewhere on the net for this to work.

Alternatively just type:

Without the 3 qoutation marks. ( )

Hare some images from my Shogun custom battles. It's about time some Samurai entered this thread

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/cavfight.jpg

Some of clan Oda's heavy cavalry are fighting a bunch of rebel No-Dachi in bad weather. The battle had a lot of heavy rain but it has cleared up for a few minutes here.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/kensai.jpg

Gavin's first day as a Kensai was not going well

For those barbarians ( http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif ) who didn't play Shogun a Kensai is a single man with a sword, in this picture he is being charged by 80 honour 8 heavy cavalry Amazingly he did manage to kill 9 of them before he died. The poor kensai was only honour 2

On a side note: Isn't the mist in the valley lovely?

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/niceview.jpg

These next four images are all from one battle. There were three units of honour 4 warrior monks (clan Oda) Vs four units of yari Samurai and two units of yari ashigaru (the rebels and ronin). It might not be a challenging battle but it was fun.

Here you can see two units of warrior monks waiting for half the enemy army to close for combat. The rebels are being sensible and keeping their general back. The other half of the rebel army is moving to outflank the monks on the left, but that is out of the picture.

This is a very scenic picture; Shogun has some truly beautiful landscapes.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/vsmonks.jpg

The charge begins - a unit of yari samurai charge the monks lines. A second after this shot was taken the monks charged themselves.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/monkfight.jpg

Here is the same two units after a few seconds. They have mixed up and the formations have been broken. The monks are starting to cause casualties but the yari samurai are holding on.

The fights in Shogun were so much messier than the ones in MTW, the units loose their formations quickly and the men mix up so it can get hard to tell who is on what side. I like it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/upclose.jpg

This is the Oda general, he is fighting a unit of yari samurai and a unit of yari ashigaru has already been killed on this spot (note the large number of bodies leading off screen). The monks have sustained heavy losses but they won't give up. A few seconds after this picture the rebels broke and ran, ending the battle.

And that's it, does anyone want more Shogun pics?

Also don't forget that the org's picture hosting facility applies to this thread as well, so if you want to post but have no webspace take a look at this topic. (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=24;t=10398)

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/mist.jpg

Here is a picture of Shogun's famous mist. It is not a very good picture (the snow makes everything blend together, it would have been better with normal grass) but mist battles are rare so I grabbed this quick shot. Now if I could only get a thunder battle :sigh:

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/samfight.jpg
These three pictures are all from the same battle from my current campaign (while I wait for a contribution to my secret project I am playing a Hojo campaign) in the battle where the Takeda were wiped out. This picture is shows what happened to the sneaky reinforcements Takeda sent in on my flank.

It is rather difficult to tell which samurai belongs to which side in the next three pictures - Takeda, Hojo and Uesugi have such similar coloured banners on my PC I can hardly tell the difference Look at the sashimonos (where visible) for a better distinction.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/samfight2.jpg
This big scrum is the main battle; I manoeuvred the Takeda into a corner so they couldn't keep backing away and then charged them with my monks, yari Samurai and no-dachi. Lord Takeda is just visible on the right of the picture. Half of Takeda's army has already been killed by my two units of archers, along with some clever ambushes from my three units of cavalry (two heavy and one yari).

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/takedadie.jpg
This is the death of Lord Takeda, the last in his line. The group of ashigaru standing admiring the view belong to the Takeda; you would think they would charge in to save their lord or something. The horsemen are also Takeda - they are the remains of the Daimyo's honour guard.

The end stats for this battle was 97 men lost and 286 heads taken including the last member of the Takeda line. \O/ Go me \O/ http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

More Shogun pics when I see something worth posting.

I really enjoy seeing screenshots from other people's games Many thanks to the Org for hosting our pictures including the ones I am posting.

This picture is from a rare four faction battle. I was playing as the Vikings and chose to invade a province controlled by the Mercians. My allies, the Scots, joined the fray as did a huge group of rebels from a former Saxon province. The Mercians had many huscarles and the rebels consisted mostly of armored spear, nobles, and even 4 units of berserkers. The battle was vicious and long. The Scots lost their king but their highlanders rallied to save my left flank on more than one occasion. In the end our alliance won the day

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/z4ArmBat.jpg

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/z4ArmBatResult.jpg

This is involves five armies in the second battle of a single turn. Snow battles rule It was me as the Picts and my allies the Scots vs. the Saxons and Mercians. The Northumbrians seemed to be fighting everyone at once The actual fighting extends way past what this single picture can show.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/z5ArmBat.jpg

When I saw this I laughed long and loud. This is one optimistic bugger

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zInsaneOdds.jpg

A shot from another snow battle I had as the Italians vs. the nasty Arogonese. My chivalric nights (out of the picture to the right) outflanked the Arogonese and crashed into their rear winning the day in glorious fashion

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zMasItvsArBat.jpg

The Scots should have raised taxes to repair their facilities before my Vikings arrived. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zRaiseTaxes.jpg

I invaded Poland as the HRE with about two hundred cavalry determined to drive the Hungarians out. However, the Russian arrived too and I decided to sit on a hill and watch them battle it out. Even with superior number the Hungarians could not defeat the Russian Boyars and were routed from the field after suffering heavy losses.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zRusvsHunBat.jpg

I have a confession to make. I have often received an heir first in line to succeed who was also an inbred loser. I usually look for a rebel or enemy province to send this unfortunate soul to single handedly conquer with the idea that he die valiantly rather than sink my faction with his vices. In this case I sent a putrid Viking heir to fight a Northumbrian army of around one thousand armored spearmen. He lost and escaped, but with these results I hadn't the heart to send him back for more.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zSuicidePriceRes.jpg

I decided to test the Swiss Armored Pikemen's defensive ability. I set up one of the larger castle maps and four enemy factions complete with many culverin cannons to maker certain they would penetrate the walls. The combination of staunch defensive ranks and withering defensive fire from the fortifications proved too much for the besiegers who suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Swiss stalwarts. My only mistake was having half a unit of SAP crushed when a wall crumbled and fell on them. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zSwedCastDef.jpg

Here come the Turkish foot straight from the field and hellbent on locating the nearest tavern

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/zTurkGate.jpg

One of my greatest triumphs as the Vikings. I attacked and ran into a MASSIVE army of Saxon huscarles and armored spearmen. I thought I would never see the last enemy unit crest the rise and charge The pride of Saxony was utterly crushed and their faction broke into civil war the following turn.

Thios is an amazing view and a heck of a battlefield. You can guess where the enemy are (hidding in the threes at the top) and you can guess how your assault will turn out (messy) and yet you find yourself sat there with the game on pause just looking at those misty mountains.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/hideandseek.jpg

The annual hide and seek championships turned nasty as rumours of cheating warrior monks spread. The events organisers continue to protest nothing is wrong and the competition is not blighted. A spokesmonk said this: We are monks, we win. It is what we do and we don't need to cheat. The spokesmonk then hacked our reporter in half. A Yari Samurai from the opposing team hads this to add: Don't let the monks get me I don't want to die, help, help, help, help before running rapidly in the direction of the tea houses. That is all for todays report.

More when I see something good.

I stick the resolution to 1024x768 and turn on the 8bit textures. That's all, most of the pictures look good because I hunt down the best views etc, Shogun doesn't look very good if you take a screenshot of a crap scene. Quote[/b] ]Where are some of your screen shots Sinan? You always used to have the best picture/battle interpretive photo posts.

Umm well, I counted the screenies I posted in this thread till I reached 150. I think I posted about approximately 165 in total, only in this thread. In other threads including the first ever RTW screenies, various suggestions threads, strategy tips etc, I think the total screenies posted exceeds 250. It's some megabytes on my web space and naturally if I can transfer all this to the org's account. I could put some other stuff on my webpace e.g. MOVIES

Anyway I'll see if I can manage some time to post some more. I have another 50 ready for the Turk PBM campaign story, about 300+ other on my Hard disk (various shots). I don't have many recent ones since I have not played MTW recently. Posted like 60-70 in the Al-Muwahiddun PBM campaign.

Ahh I forgot about the America's Army Thread (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=10657;st=0) where I have posted about 40+ screenies, I'd say. Have a look in there too, you will see some interesting shots. All in all I have posted definitely more than 250 screenies, possibly 320 or so.

I like to see other people's screenies took, though. I really like the large unit size shots, gives an aspect of mayhem. I never tried large unit size much, to allow as much space to maneuver on the map as possible.

I still enjoy Paintshop-ing so will try to post some more.

Jacque,

One of the really net thing with MP is we got some MASSIVE battles with 4v4 that we can't quite get in SP.
I have one SP campaign under way, and the main two drawback for me are; unchallenging battles, not so much because tactical AI is not good, but rather because it is already outplayed in the strategic part (less troop of less quality with bad generals), and no big 4v4 mayhem http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Lots of cav and someone in for a bad day... Possibly, if they have not seen it coming http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif... there are wood not too far, and if the line hold the initial charge, they'll be ok http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. Now that is an impressive set of shots. They looked good while I was transfering them over but the captions just add the finishing touches. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

This mod is looking more and more incredible each time I see it. Those castle graphics are a massive improvement over the originals while retaining the distinct stylings that makes each type recognisable. I can't wait for some shots of siege battles. I'm saving space on my hard drive for this mod.

Ok, I've started a new page, but my timing is off and the screens have to be uploaded to the .org by the staff. I guess the shots will have to go up sometime in the near future, as I have about a billion of them, and they will probably take up this entire page.

Well that makes it easy to track down the owner of KMscreenshots Your archive is invalid, which is a nice way for winzip to say something go messed up somewhere along the line I can't get your screenshots out of the zip file so I'm afraid you will have to wait. I am contacting TosaInu about this as there is another corupted zipfile (NTWbattlescene3cannonburst) bringing the total up to 4 corrupted zips out of 7.

When TosaInu has had time to check the zip files I will delete the corrupted version and ask you to resubmit. NTW must be the Napolionic mod so Lord of Storms may have an idea on who owns the other file.

In light of the screenshot competition I shall add this in bold: Normal unzipped files are getting through without any problems. If you have an entry for the competion submit it as an unzipped JPEG and I'll have it transfered within 24 hours.

EDIT: TosaInu thinks he's found the problem, basically some browsers report the upload as complete when it isn't. You need to wait for the uploader itself to tell you the upload is complete before you leave the page. If you don't wait your will corrupt your file.

Back to business as usual then.

These pictures are taken during a rainsoaked bridge battle in a thunderstorm. At one point I managed to pause the battle during a lightningflash. This explains also the pause-sign in the corners. The pictures may be crap, but you can at least admire the natural beauty of a thunderstorm.

Well, artifical natural beauty anyway.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Ludens2.jpg

In the next picture you see Korean Skirmishers trying to lure the Yari Samurai on the bridge, while Mongol Light Cavalry are pounding the Hojo's men with arrows. Not shown on this picture is how a unit of Korean Guardsmen comes to the rescue of the tactically withdrawing Skirmishers (If you look hard you can see both the Guardsmen and the arrows on the first image).
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Ludens1.jpg

The Skirmishers routed, the Yari's followed them over the bridge and got into a nasty bridge battle with the Guardsmen. In the end the Guardsmen prevailed and proceeded to charge the Samurai Archers while Mongol Light Horse was preparing to cross the river. Although the Guardsmen routed even before they made contact with the Archers, the charge of the Light Horse proved to much for the Hojo general, and he fled.
Not that it mattered anyway, my Mongols killed him allright http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif .

Since it has been a long time since the last shots here are a couple of mine.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/frogbeastegglaststand.jpg
This is the end of the campaign before the one I am playing. Shimazu is really out there in force - a problem because I was Mori Yes I lost, the famous froggy was crushed by the AI. How embarrassing Actually this was the best campaign of Shogun since the first one I won, it was challenging from the first turn. I was Mori/hard/1580 and I had bad harvests nearly every year. I was being attacked in four provinces almost every single turn by the rebels, Shimazu and Oda. The the Imagawa joined the party. With an income of about 500 koku a year I could only build a couple of cheap and crappy units each year to replace my losses, and that was only if I didn't try to upgrade my provinces. I had some amazing battles, outnumbered by 2-1 or more and this is the first time in ages I had to rely on yari samurai and yari ashigaru for everything. In the end I was slowly ground down - no cahs to defend or buuild up properly, no spare men to attack, no peace with my enemies. it was inevitable. In this screenshot you see the army that broke my borders for the first time 8 No-Dachi, 3 samurai archers, 2 musketeers, 2 yari samurai, 2 yari cavalry (the bodies in the woods right at the back - take that ) and a unit of warrior monks against my poor, worn down army that had 3 units of yari samurai, 3 samurai archers and my Daimyo's hatamoto of 11 heavy cavalry. High honour men, my army fought to the last man and there was not a single survivor. After this the Shimazu could mop up my empire without any opposition until they hit my other border provinces so I quit the game rsather than sit through several years with nothing to do at all.

I may write this one up as a story, been while since I did a battlefield piece.

EDIT: I forgot to add that this screenshot has been edited as the orginal came out very dark for some reason. The other one has just been resized and cropped.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/frogbeasteggbridgeview.jpg

My current camapign as Uesugi/hard/1550. I am doing much better but still using large numbers of Yari samurai to save cash and to make a chasnge from the usual warrior monks etc. Fully upgraded yari samurai, this time - cheap but very effective indeed. Support is provided by a couple of units of archers, 2 gun units, and 2 units of either naginata cav or heavy cav. Cheap but more than dangerous. After conquering until I held Noto, Sado, Dewa, Mutsu, Echigo, Kozuke, Musashi, Shimotsuke, Hitachi, Shimosa and Kazuka I stopped and built up to the best technology and stabilised my borders. This is the moment the Uesugi went to war for the first time in nearly 11 years - the moment the Takeda attacked Echigo with an army of over 4,000 samurai to my 900 and something. It was a bridge battle and needless to say I kicked Takeda back out of my lands and gained a pile of honour doing so

At the front of the picture is one of Takeda's heavy cavalry units that came in on my side of the bridge as reinforcements. Their charge was stopped in a neat little line by a unit of fully upgraded honour 4 Yari samurai. In the middle ground on the left of the picture is the remains of another Takeda cavalry unit that tried the same trick. The large mass of people you can see on the bridge are all dead. Isn't the sky nice? It was snowing lightly throughout the battle, which played havok with my guns. Such a pretty picture if you ignore the thousands of Takeda dead lying around on the ground.

From here on out the Takeda provinces of Sagami, Kai, Shinano, Etchu and Kaga are all undermanned and vulnerable to my counter attack. The shattered remnants of this Takeda army cannot stand against my counter attack and in the next season my armies will march accross the borders and begin to take down the Takeda. The decision to attack me was foolish - the Takeda own a third of Japan and are at war with Mori who own another third. They cannot fight on two fronts effectively. Hopefully Mori will remain distrcted mopping up the handful of Shimazu provinces left for a while because fighting two enormously powerful clans at once will get very interesting....probably why I fortified and let them grow http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

01-25-2004, 00:47
Me too but I'm afraid no one will ever know. For some reason the Byzantines fled the province, leaving it to the rebels, and so I could invade it the next year. 1400 of my men with 700 of the runner's Big Byzantium Brothers prepared for battle. When we entered the battle field.... Crash to desktop.

The game became unstable after that though.. Reloaded the savegame without invading this time: in the next 6 years there have been 3 more spy army rebellions in Tripoli. The 7th year the Turkish reappeared with 30 catapults and 1 peasant in Tripoli and a normal army in Sinai. About 10 years later I launched a major attack o the Byzantines, but at the end of the 4th battle (I lost only about 50 men, killed and captured about 1000 byz - on expert, was the perfect battle), just before the score would popup.. *poof* another crash to desktop.

I think the spies have been messing with the game engine or something. Weird little Greenpeace creatures.

Now I will continue my Byzantine campaign series:

The year is 1231, and Russian province after province are falling to the Horde... Only Byzantium has the strength and courage to stand up to the horde. So a battle in the chokepoint province of Georgia is inevitable between a Mongolian detachement of 7423 men and Byzantium's finest 4325 men.

So I open the battle with the Vesteriarte leading the charge into the Chinese infantry(feudal seargents basically) and Mongol Warriors.

The Paramonai and Varangians join the fight:

In an ironic twist of fate the Khan had watched the entire battle from atop a hill, and when he saw it was not going so well for his men, so he decided to do the honourable thing and charge down the hill at my mercenary Muslim Handgunners... I thought for sure they would flee, but they managed to get one more volley off before they met the Mongol spears...

Indeed, very nice screenshots. Good job http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

And it does bring back memories of a way too long battle in Georgia... however it was in an unchanged version of MTW and the Mongols played it smart... but only in the reverse of what the Mongols would normally do

First they came with the full force of their heavy cavalry, and when I beat them back quickly, they reverted to skirmishing. My archers ran out of ammunition quickly and I had to resort to have lancers and pronoai allagion to chase the horse archers off, being unable to catch them.

In the end, I quit the battle. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Well I've played two campaigns against them now and I've defeated them twice in a row that way. I find that if you eliminate the Khan in the first 20 years or so he won't have any heirs yet. I'm still surprised watching that replay that the handgunners managed to knock him down...

Here is a pic from the battle i fought in Poland,

http://www.bonedaddy.net/Monk/Dead.jpg

The dead piled up in heaps as the Poles fought desperately trying to stave off the Mongol offensive, finally after much bloodshed, they drove their enemy across the Bridge and claimed victory.

so here it is.. one of the most amazing online battles i have ever played. The battle wasnt amazingly tactical by any standards, but the feel of the battle just seemed a lot more realistic, the screenshots really dont do much justice to the battle, but they help where words dont. And watching the replay doesnt have the same effect again, like you are anticipating something greater, but its a little less. Nevertheless, its my fav online battle to date.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE1.jpg
The Turkish Divisions line up, a mass of cavalry and archers, all ready to spread thier influence over the land

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE2.jpg
The Egyptian Divisons, like the turks streatching as far as the eye can see, hoping to defend the fertile nile delta against the invading turks

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE3.jpg
The view of the ridge, just in front of the Egyptian center/right

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE4.jpg
The turkish horde moves into position just behind the ridge, the egyptians grouping below

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE5.jpg
The first turks crest the ridge, view from the thin egyptian center

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE6.jpg
The horde crests the ridge, storming forward towards the Egyptian lines, a most spectacular sight. A seccond Egyptian Division has now re-inforced the center to meet the new threat just in time.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE7.jpg
View from the Egyptian Right as the turks charge down the hill, led by thier generals

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE8.jpg
The armies close, the Egyptian line looking precauriously thin for such a charge. Generals of boths sides leading thier men to battle. Egyptian reservs on the far hill slow to help thier allies

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE9.jpg
The View from the ridge, a swarming mass of turks still pouring over

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE10.jpg
General to general, an Egyptian general tries to rally his men in an inspiring stand against the oncoming hordes, but it doesnt seem to work. The Egyptian reserves come over the hill, but are met by turkish troops stopping the flank manouver.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE11.jpg
The Egyptian flanking move is succesful The turks sent to stop it turn tail and flee as the egyptian cavalry cuts them down. However it is too late to save the Egyptian right, which has buckled under the pressure of the charge, and crumbles into a rout, even though the Generals chose not to run but fight to the death.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE12.jpg
An Egyptian General has fallen Yet the routing of the Turkish flank has proven to be the saving of one of the generals. But it still isnt fast enough as the victorious Turkish left regroups and holds, rallying thier comrades.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE13.jpg
The battle has wheeled 180 degrees, and the remainder of the Egyptians hold the edge of the ridge, as the turks now regrouped swarm for the kill

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE14.jpg
One flank of the Egyptians cant hold, and buckles under the weight of numbers, creating an opening for a Turkish victory.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/Al_TvE15.jpg
But what is this? Turks running away? Saving the day was a single unit of naptha throwers, that spooked the Turks into massive confusion, allowing the Egyptian cavalry which had now re-grouped to dismay the Turks. The majority ran from the feild, however a few brave units stayed to try fight, but were easily picked off by the Egyptian Cavalry.

What looked like a Turkish win was checked by the last division of Egypts army, and then routed from the field. Both sides suffered major losses, and both would be licking thier wounds for years to come.

Many thanks to the participants of this battle,

It was a glorious day in Kiev, as the Grand prince of Russia formed his men to defy the Mongols. But then sudenly a great booming noise is heard, The Rus look to the sky and see a boulder coming near them. Watch out one of the unit commanders cries, but to their luck it bounces over the front line Infantry.

The Archers behind fall to the ground and get out of its deadly way, but behind them the Prince himself was not so lucky.
(added a quick blue sqare to show it was not even ONE MINUTE into the battle LOL )

The year was 1230, and the empire of the Vikings stretched far from their frozen homes in the north. Many lands had fallen under their sway, and many more paid homage to the Danish King in his halls of Novgorod.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/mapdenmark1.JPG

Rumors of a powerful foe to the east, the destruction of Samarkand, Dog headed warriors with the ferocity of death. Each one when slain one thousand more would leap to take his place. The King of the mighty danes was worried and rushed everything he had to khazar and battered the Weak turks out of their new homes. With the stage set he waited sending his mightiest warriors, 13,000 of the empire's greatest including his four sons.

and when they did come, what a sight the Horde was.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/monkehorde2.jpg

twenty six thousand bloodthirsty warriors intent on making the northern steppes their own. But the Proud Vikings, thought gravely outnumbered refused to give up without a battle.

So they fought.

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/monkolafdead3.jpg

And they fought... (this screen taken during the replay with -ian command)

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/monkb4.jpg

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/monkend5.jpg

They stained the ground red with their fury but the Mongols never let up. The vikings held their axes ready and repulsed wave after wave of the onslaught, The battle itself raged for two full days until finally after their khan had fallen in a mighty duel, the Mongols fled back east never to return again. But there was a price to pay, for three of th four danish princes were slain in the fierce combat that surrounded that forest. With most of hi brothers dead and many more of his people along with them, the last surviving prince grabbed hold of the banner of the vikings, and climbed onto a pile of Mongol corpses. He surveyed the land around him and he saw that there was not a part of that great field that was not stained with the blood of the two peoples who had battled. he waved the flag back and forth and shouted with all his might Victory

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/monkbend6.jpg

of the thirteen thousand men who had marched with the four princes to this land of Khazar, only three hundred lived to tell of what happened.

Anyhow. Thank you (i think http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) for the complement. I would have had more screens, but this just took way too damn long to fight. As i said in the little summery there, it took two days to fight. I started this battle on May 3rd at around 9pm. It didn't end until May 4th 7pm...Thats right almost 24 hours With a few hours give or take for eating and sleeping.

I NEVER want to fight the Mongols ever again... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Monk, that is amazing. 26000 Mongols against your 13000 and only 300 of yours survived? Carnage http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . How many Mongols did you kill? And how long did it take you to fight that battle?

i don't remember the exact numbers, but i remember it was something like 17k killed in the actual battle, another 6,000 were taken prisoner on the battlefield. Having their Khan killed in battle and nowhere to retreat to, the survivors (who were only those who escaped my warriors chase) were put to the sword. The horde was obliterated, both in the battle and it's aftermath. The battle took around 9-12 hours of fighting, the Mongols kept doing hit and runs with their Horse archers. Plus i had to take time out to eat and sleep so it took me about two days to actually fight the whole thing.

On an interesting Side note, the 300 who survived the battle were the finest examples of warriors to the Viking name. They were split up after the Great Khazarian war, and sent to different parts of the world to take the fight to the Enemies of the crown. The few who survived would always hold themselves apart from other warriors, they never were gathered into other units or went into retraining, instead they fought by themselves looking for honor; only trusting those that had survived that hell with them to fight by their side.

Many would fall in the War for Constantinople fought against the Egyptian Empire, many more would die in the colonization of England, yet in both life in death, they always carried with them the spirit of true warriors, proud vikings who finally found their rest after honorable lives.

Here's a couple of fun screenshots from a game where I fought the Mongols in Khazar ...

After several waves of Mongol warriors something very strange happened and the AI stopped attacking, all the Mongols got piled up at their rally point when they came on to the map.

here's what happened when the next wave came in...
