View Full Version : Announcing the arrival of your new mod

Like the title says I have now been given my new moderators powers For reference I can close/open topics, (un)pin topics and move topics, since I'm an assistant mod I don't have access to the full range of tools. Shadeswolf is the full mod for this forum so you should pester him for things like topic deletion and bans. Assistant Mod is a new position and the specifics are still being worked out, if I seem a little clueless at times this is my excuse

Please note that I am Assistant Mod for the Mead Hall only - outside of the Mead Hall I am just another patron, even if I do have a tool kit it's probably not my place to use it away from here. I will continue to post like a regular patron, basically it's the same old froggy which you either love or hate.

TosaInu has been cooking up a new feature that I'm sure you will like and I have the privilege of announcing it in the Mead Hall. Look for my topic on 'Uploading pictures to the org' for more information. This topic will go sticky as soon as I
A)Write it
B)Figure out how to use this special glue

Now that business is taken care of I'd like to thank all those crazy people who voted for me When this forum was proposed I said I'd sit out of the way until the dust settled on the new mod, quite frankly the dust has created a mess all over my carpet http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif I didn't think for one second that anyone would even nominate me, words cannot describe how touched I am by your trust.

OK, enough mushy stuff. Frogbeastegg, Assistant Moderator at your service :bows:

Thanks everyone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif I should probably have said that the Mead Hall is serving free drinks for 24 hours Isn't it amazing what you can do when you can access the tills power supply?

Gregoshi I've already taken care of the photo - here you go:

It's a bit small but hey frogs are small animals

I'm going to see if I can rename my story topic and call it something more appropriote now it has a proper home. I will add to it as soon as I finish 'Gentle Knight', alas writing a tournament is not as easy as it seems.

Demon of Light - Congratulations yourself It's good to see I'm not the only assistant moderator wandering the org now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif (froggy whispers so only Demon can hear: We can split the technical problems with the new rank now, how's 50-50 sound? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

Louis - yep, that's exploding as in ka-boomb Here's the explaination I gave Kraellin when he asked about my name:

If you'd ever played thief or thief 2 you'd recognise it as the name of one of the most dangerous and amusing enemies - the frog beast. In thief 1 frog beasts were quite rare but very deadly. They are exploding frogs and they hop up next to you when you're not paying attention, the first you know is the frog noise right next to you shortly before the frog exploded. There's something undeniably funny about ribit, ribit BOOM

In thief 2 you could collect frog beast eggs, they acted like hand grenades. All you had to do was chuck them at an enemy and keep far away from the ensuing chaos as the frog followed the enemy around like a pet before blowing up, all the time the enemy would be trying to hit the frog beast, often with no success. Better still you didn't get blamed for the frog beasts kills so you could use them on levels where killing wasn't allowed.

They were nasty little beggars. If they got close you would shortly be redecorating the walls and they were very hard to hit from a distance because they are so small, if they were next to you it was even harder to hit then with your sword. Oh and they could hop long distances very quickly, so running away wasn't much of an option most of the time. The real fun came when there were several frog beats in an area with some other enemies, if you shot one with a fire arrow it would start a chain reaction of exploding frogs killing anything close by and blowing down destructible scenery.

When I was choosing my name I was racking my brains for hours, by chance I started flicking through my old thief 2 book when I saw the bit on frog beast eggs. I thought it sounded quite catchy if you ran it together and it was certainly distinctive. The rest, as they say, is history

If you want to read the original (there's a whole advert for the Thief games, they should be on everyone's play list) it's here (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=10163).

I suppose I can extend the free drinks offer just a little longer....
