Alex Kingston of ER fame starred as Boudicca in a TV drama on terrestrial television in the UK Sunday night.
In a subtle way I think it was trying to equate the Romans with modern day US..with its referral to 'client states'...'axis of evil','divide and rule' (and a lot of other things) in regard to the the way the Iceni tribe were treated by the Romans. Maybe Rome had an efficient military machine, but they sure were b****ds in their governing. I think it showed that quite well.

Hi Sparrow, welcome to the Org
I saw Boudicca and i thought it was utter trash It was really painful to watch. The Celts were portrayed in a really daft light and that guy who played Nero, what planet did he come from? All together terrible really, apart from that it was great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

I agree that it wasnt the best drama I have seen, but I thought the refrences to the celts as 'terrorists' was quite funny
Battle scenes werent up to much, but I thought it quite topical to this board (and esp. Time Commanders...)

Yes - I saw it and noticed that the writer put in lots of topical references.

It was ok - kind of fell to pieces at the end, though. [The last battle was the battle of Watling Street or wherever, recently shown in the Time Commanders series, wasn't it?]

On the positive side, I loved the scene where Claudius came to meet the Iceni - his lines and fine acting reminded me of the wonderful old series I, Claudius. The bits with Nero and the treatment of Boadicca/her daughters also reminded me of that series and how appalling the Romans could be, but were less well done - too crudely graphical.

All in all, wish I'd watched the Deal on Channel 4 instead.

The song birds in our willow tree sing gleeful songs of welcome to sparrow. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Thanks for perching here at the Org.

As I'm a Yank, I've missed out on this programme. Fortunately it doesn't sound like I missed much.

Watched half of it, recorded the last half, dont know if I want to watch it though.

They should have billed it as a comedy and even then it would have been dubious.

They spent 3 milllion pounds on it, what a waste of money, the acting was bad, the fact that they had tried to use the dialogue to make topical references completely destroyed any kind of believable realism or actuality.

What really hurts is some very good actors were in it and could not make anything of the script.

I shall no doubt force myself to watch the rest just so I can be assured that my above hate of it is justified.

So to sum up, I did not rate it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It was an Iceni version of Braveheart, designed to rally up the people of Cambridgeshire against the imperialistic Anglo-American alliance I'm certain of it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

That said it was entertaining at times, if not laughable and grossly inaccurate the rest of the time. 2* from me.

I think the topical refrences saved it from being a total failure ;-) I agree with Simon that it did go into a bit too much detail on certain nasty scenes...I dont think it needed that. However, apart from poor acting I thought it was ok, and was an historical drama for Sunday night...I dont watch many dramas or TV generally, but did this, because of the topic. Id give it 3 of out 5...

Oh, and thanks for the welcomes...been reading this board since STW on and off--Time Commmanders has rekindled my interest in MTW Cant wait to crush Suetonius at Watling Street in RTW ;-)
Cheers,
