I'm of the opinion that it's totally boring, after playing it once as one of the tribes and another time as the viks, I found it to be a very inferior version of the main campaign, with no real flavor of its own. The tendency of every side but the vikings to have exclusivly useless units makes the fighting rather boring. And far as I know, there aren't any interesting mods for it.

Watch Mists of Avalon and think again.

I disagree, although I prefer the main campaign I think the infantry based combat and the fact that the Vikings have vastly superior units means the AI can put up a decent fight sometimes (or maybe i'm just cr*p http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif ).I use the Mercians closest thing to a regular army,I started a game with the Vikings but it was so easy I started again with someone else.

While I'm not nearly as fond of the VI campaign as I am of the original MTW campaign, I do think it has it's merits.

I think we will all acknowledge that just about anyone can stomp across the isles as the Vikings. The real challenge comes when you try and win as one of the less powerful factions, namely the poor Welsh and the isolated Irish. Even the relatively more advantaged Picts and Scots are likely to be the early targets of the Vikings plunder and should they avoid death by berserker they will be left with the task of holding off their far more affluent cousins to the south.

Leave off playing the Vikings, Mercians, and Saxons and it almost becomes a pick your poison scenario. You can either be poor, a direct target of Viking raids, or isolated an unable to expand. Yikes http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

i enjoy it quite a lot, i even get to play as Ireland (my country), even if they are a bit tricky to work with. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

the scale of the map is good, small enough not to get bored when you are over half way through the game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

In some respects its better than MTW. Campaigns are shorter and generally more intense. One faction I just can't figure out is the Welsh. Tech'ed up once to their Hashishan (sp) type archer...couldn't afford to build more than 2 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Allthough I just started one campaign (playing as vikings), I like the expansion. I have to admit that I play the normal campaign more.
I like the smaller scale of the map, it's easy manageable, you known what's happens with the other factions, there's a larger variety of units

I have only played it though once as the Saxons..found it too easy. The Vikings just stayed put, never had one encounter with them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif I do like the setting though, thought it was a good period to choose for an expansion pack.

I do intend to go back to it though (maybe as the Vikings..ive yet to see them in action), after I have finished my current campaign as the English.

I've always found it a good alternative. It's kind of like a mini one, don't have time to play the full game don't worry you have this. It's good to have if you do a lot of travelling and sticking it on a laptop makes those train/plane/car (as long as your not driving http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) journeys go a little quicker. It's good fun and adds a bit more tactical challenge.

The vikings may be easy but are fun to play. Raiding provinces with just your king and a heir is something you can`t do with any other faction.

Hate it.

When I finally get hold of the situation two full viking armies appears and crush me, no fun ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I like the smaller campaign, the simpler tech tree - it reminds me of Shogun - and fact that some factions are unstoppable on the battlefield (vikings) some are good on the battlefield and rich (Mercians & Saxons) and some are average with poor lands (the rest). Playing as the Irish or the Scots is different and a challenge.

I never really played VI. Found it a bit tedious.
Whereas the original/main campaign is a lot more enjoyable in my opinion.
At the moment I'm playing as much of Wes's MedMod as I possibly can. It's just a mod that makes you go WOW

I'll eventually go back to playing VI but while the maing campaing still holds misteries I wont even go near it. The main campaing is so good, all other games are on an indefinite stand by mode. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I must admit I prefer the main campaign... the Viking one is a welcome break but it doesn't have the same scope as the original.

My biggest complaint about the Viking campaign is the length of time to get farms built 16 Years, you've got to be kidding http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

I much prefer to conquer the whole of Europe... Its a lot more satisfying (and varied)

I love it, except I have MedMod 3 so can't play it anymore. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif Have to make another install and only install version 2.04 *sigh*
