in MTW I've been trying to retrain some royal nights who
are gettin thin.I brought them to thier origin province which as far as i can tell is producing all its possible cav units (including royal nights) but when I drag any of my target units onto the empty training queue I get a dialog box that tells me to bring unit to a place with Royal Knight producion capability??And I can see the RK icon
in that same screen http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Hi bierkopf http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Are you playing the regular MTW game or are you using a mod? My first gues would be that you are trying to retrain RC from a different era. What I mean is that with each time period change Royal Cav units progressively change and once they have changed the older unit cannot be retrained even though you used to be able to make that unit. Or is it possible that you have lost a building in that province, due to a rebellion or enemy takeover, that is crucial to the construction of that unit?

If that doesn't help then perhaps you can give us a little more information. I'm sure someone has the answer you need

In VI (MTW 2.0) you can retrain Royal Knights if they belong to a earlier era. (they get upgraded, it would be so nice if other units could share such an opportunity, like Feudal to Chivalric troops). In MTW 1.0 you cannot do that, I don't know about 1.1.

A simpler solution could be it though, the unit of royal knights that you are trying to train must have been in that same province for a year, or one game turn. You will notice that if you pick up an army stack or strategic unit, the province it came from is highlighted. This is because until the end of the year, it hasn't actually moved.

I hope this helps.

Could be a glitch - I saw something v similar in a Byzantine campaign. - I was churning our Pronai Alagoni (or something like that..) in Nicea, but found myself unable to retrain exactly the same units later on in the same province...

This was not a unique experience - I have seen it on a couple of other occasions though it does seem v rare...

Welcome to the Entrance Hall bierkopf. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I've not seen the problem, so I can't help you very much. Thanks to the others for the suggestions/comments. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

The game sometimes shows an odd glitch when it comes to the royal family units because I remember retraining royal family units once in the high era and if they were retrained in Cordoba they came out as early era bodyguards but if they were trained in provence they came out as high era bodyguards.

So are these royal knights you are trying to retrain part of the royal family?

My only other thought is that you thougt you had trained theses guys because you saw them on the map but they actually popped out as an heir and you actually dont have the buildings to retrain them. An heir will get 19 other bodyguards when he is of age reguardless wether you have the building requirements or not for royal knights

The Pronai Alagoni become unavaiable to the Byzantines after a certain year, so any units of these left will not be allowed to retrain.
