Have modded Sweden, Bavaria and Wurttemburg into the Napoleon Mod, but trying to figure out the 'N_ flags, shields, etc. Are these hardcoded by the Lords or is their a way to do the same with the above mentioned countries. They work great with the flags of the old palettes, but are so limited in color. Could anyone give me any insight? I am new and no sure this is the place to post this, but I will learn

You are indeed correct in posting your question in this forum Hardrada (like you have a choice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ). And you are doubly right about not asking = not knowing.

Unfortunately for you, I know nothing about modding - so don't ask. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif The answer men/women should be around shortly to quench your palettes. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif That was bad, I know. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Thanks Gregoshi for the support at least http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
But I sure hope there are some modders out there who will respond if they know anything about this. Probably those who worked on the Nap mod would know something about it.
There are great flags for that era and am hoping to import some

Knowledge comes to those who are persistent enought to ask more than once. -Right?

If the Lords have provided modified images for a specific mod then such images cannot be hardcoded by definition.

Many of these images (flags, shields, units) do indeed use a 256 colour palette. MTW generally uses BIFs and LBMs for such images. BIFs always have a 256 palette, LBMs generally do. Other images such as TGAs are generally full colour images (not palletted) and are therefore used for images like maps and portraits that require a full colour range.

Can you change the colours in these palettes - yes providing you know what you are doing (for example BIFS must always have any transparency as palette number 0). Having said that, some BIF and LBM files (pertaining to campaign maps) do indeed have a hardcoded palette and you must not change such images.

Can you change the 256 colour palette images to full colour - no.

If you wish to change such flag/shield graphics images then the 1st thing you require is some tool that does'nt screw the colour palettes up. Also do a search in the Dungeon for BIF, LBM, shields and flags and you'll find lots of threads that should give you enough info to make a start.

Thanks Wellington That will help. I use Paint Shop Pro 4.15 as well as the recent biff reader, and have Ultimate Paint also. One thing I noticed is that not all of the prebatshields have the new colors in Nap. Same with some of the castle flags. Are only the items in the 'nap' folders essential to making the faction playable? Also, does the same pallette need to be used for the prebats, castle flags and Piece Catholic and Muslim flags as well, or can they have separate pallettes? Hope this is not picking to many brains on the subject, but I am intrigued

May I direct you to this forum? http://pub162.ezboard.com/broyalfootguardclanforum

If you post your question here, you may get a swifter answer (I cant answer it myself). May I also point out that although the Lordz do not mind you modding your own version of NTW, there are further updates to come which may cause problems in light of the mods you are making yourself. Feel free to play around, but be sure to keep back up files just in case, Just a bit of advice.

BTW, v1.05 should be out soon

This may or may not be true.

Pointing someone to another forum for an answer pertaining to a specific mod may well be a good idea. It all depends, however, what the question is.

As the original question related to MTW graphics file formats and the implications of such, my reply was directed towards MTW/VI considerations as opposed to any specific mod.

I've never downloaded the full Nap mod so I have no idea exactly how such a group has changed colours for some images. Does'nt matter however, simply because any mod for MTW/VI MUST adhere to MTW/VI graphics format rules.

My previous post, as this, was not specific in terms of any particular mod but rather in terms of how the MTW/VI engine treats certain graphics images that would undoubtadly be changed/amended in many mods.

If any member of The Lordz, who created the Nap mod, understands the MTW/VI implications for such file formats then it may be a better idea to post a response for such general Org questions at The Org, rather than pointing new Org members to an alternative site - in the hope that such a question may be answered.

If any Lord understands such issues, and wishes to elaborate on the implications of MTW file formats pertaining to images provided within the Nap mod, may I request such individuals respond to such threads/questions that are posed at The Org ...

... rather than pointing such individuals to other, more vague, forums.

The Entrance Hall attracts many new people to MTW modding issues.

Lets not confuse them ..
