You are stretching my memory, but I do know that Japan's Darkest Days by our very own barocca has received a lot of comments about the challenge of it. Check out the Shogun section of our downloads pages.

I went and checked out Barocca's Shogun MOD. Very nice. As someone who finds the orginal shogun on expert to be way too easy, I applaud Barocca's idea to stick the clans between the Mongol invasion and the Kamakura (basically Hojo) Bafuku.

I know I'm not the only one whose mouth is watering while looking at the MTW shogun mod. Bring it on

I've tried to download Gempei Wars, is it good?

Yes gempei wars is a lot of fun http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif so is warlords 1550 btw, and amagi made 5 new campaigns that are supposed to make the game much more difficult.

You could try my Amagi_1.2 collection of campaigns, one for each of the originals. They use altered troopstats and AI building strategies, but the original data is included and you don't have to use the altered files to play the campaigns.

I found that in Shogun the AI clans go out early too often due to over-expansion, and they attack with too few troops. I attempted to correct this with the addition of starting shinobi and by making them less aggressive. The other main changes are to the unit sizes, making ashigaru more worthwhile, and to cavalry speed and turning, making them faster in a straight line but more difficult to manoeuvre.

The campaigns are still fairly easy, but then I'd got a lot better at SP by the time I made them.

amagi, I deleted the two posts of yours. This isn't the Army, so there is no need to post in triplicate. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Hello,
I have been reading with great interest that Barocca AND Lord Krazy are working on a Shogun mod for MTW. Are these two seperate mods, or are they working together on one?

Sorry Gregoshi,
Thanks for leaving me the opportunity to edit. I didn't realise the posts had completed sending, or I'd have deleted the first two myself.

I made the armies easier to rout in line with Shogun 1.03 when I made the changes to the troopstats file. I got overconfident once and let about half an Imagawa no-dachi unit get past my reserves and sneak onto the hill at Shinano, and my army routed one unit after another after the front line yari were attacked from behind. Using 1.03 honour changes means that Totomi makes a big difference. I was embarrassed then too...

Greetings and welcome Robbie-san. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I believe barocca and Lord Krazy are working on the same mod. bar is the main driver behind the mod, working on it every waking moment (or so it seems). LK is providing his expertise and talents to the project, though I think he has another mod or two on his plate as well. Several others are providing additional help in various areas of the mod. It is looking better and better each time I see a screen shot (actually that is a understatement).

Domo Arigato Gozaimashita Gregoshi-sama.

I have beenplaying Shogun nonstop in anticipation of the new release. I should be studying. I'm applying for medical
school.
I am half-Okinawan. My ancestors were colaborators with the Satsumas that took over the Ryukyu Islands. Their clan name was Nakandakari. For someone of former samurai stock it is an almost unbelieveable dream to play Shogun.
I'm not much of a strategic player. I usually play tactical games. My favorite game of all time is Kengo: Master of Bushido (Playstation). It's been my experience that most Americans haven't heard of it or are indifferent to its playstyle. Has anyone played it here? The Japanese designer released the sequel Kengo: Legacy of the Blade in Japan, but the English release hasn't come out yet. Anyway, for people interested in the arts of the katana, Kengo is a wonderful game. You have to build up very slowly, with little advancement for what seems like an eternity. The cool thing is that you learn beautiful sword techniques after awhile. These techiques are quite comples, so its very similar to going to budo. I highly recommend the game, and since it's old, you can pick it up for a song.
Peace,
Robbie-san

Thanks for the info Robbie-san. Is Kengo: Master of Bushido a PS or a PS2 game? I may have to take a look for it in my local EBGames stores.

Robbie-san
10-12-2003, 19:54
Kengo is for the playstation. It is an older game. Sorry about the double posting. Is there a way to contact Barroca? Are they looking for input on their mod from Junior Patrons too? I have a few ideas, but I am new here and don't want to be rude.

I was thinking recently about Chinese as opposed to Western accomplishments. In many case things like compasses, circumnavigating the globe, seismic detection, etc., the Chinese were more advanced at an earlier time. The Japanese were too. They were the first to write the novel i.e. The Tale of the Genji. It would be fun if there was a more involved tech tree and other types of characters that would give advantages later in the game. Something like alternative history if gunpower is discovered in Japan. Not all of the tech would have to be military. Then again Shogun's strength is it's beautiful visuals. The images of massive armies attacking is what makes the game so unique.

Maybe some of the other martial arts could be involved in the mod, or at least some new units. For example, some of the other arts of budo, like Aikido, Karate, Jujitsu, Iaido, etc. Can you imagine bring taverns, inns, and a Bunraku or Kabuki would bring the travelers in to you fiefdom? Then you might be able to have a Sumo school and later Sumo trained warriors. You could have some really interesting combat. Each of the clans had their own types of Jujitsu...this could be reflected in new units of samurai. There were also many different sword schools. It would be necessary to have different animated motions, just advantages to say the Yagyu school of katana. It's not historically accurate, but what if Musashi had been a Kensai for a particular fiefdom, and then some of the elite soldiers get to use both the katana and wakizashi. That would make a devastating unit. Samurai trained in the tradition of the Book of Five Rings.Wow Some samurai could use both the Bow or sword. Some used the spear as well. You could have units that could switch combat modes based upon necesity.

Wouldn't some quotes from the Hagakure or other writings add atmosphere to the mod? Or I personally like the history in Medieval War. Some quotes from Japanese history, like the birth of certain key warriors, like Nobunaga,Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, etc. would alert all of us to be on our toes.

Anyway, I am so pumped about the new mod. I can't wait for the opportunity to play. My complete thanks to the mod developers

Peace,
Robbie-san

Just an addition to Robbie San, we could have something of addoption sort of thing, in place of the princess thing, because,if you didn't have an hier you could adopt someone.

Robbie-san,
You've a lot of good ideas and seem quite knowledgable about the time period. Realize that with modding there are limits with what a modder can do and barocca is working under tighter restrictions that a typical mod. However, you don't know until you ask, right? You can contact barocca (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=Profile;CODE=03;MID=98-210) by clicking on his name and then clicking on the Send barocca a Private Message at the top of his profile page.

Dear Gregoshi-sama,
I am unable to email Barocca a private email. I suspect that is a good thing. You don't want Junior Patrons to be able to do this. An administrator is too busy to receive lots of email. It looks like a security function of the board. Thanks for you assistance. Robbie-san

Gregoshi-sama,
I'm honoured that you think some of my comments might be worthy of his attention. My sincere and humble thanks. Good luck with Kengo. I'll alert you when the new version is released here in the United States.

Peace,
Robbie-san

Say has anybody read Samurai Cat? It's a hysterical comic novel that pays tribute to Samurai history as well as several writers like h. P. Lovecraft and if memory serves Tolkien. You might want to add it to your collection. Samurai Cat (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/3216/samurai.html)

Mr Mod,
This is LOTR-Helper from the Middle Earth Total War mod.
I cannot post in the Dungeon, nor can I PM members (Barocca) due to your noob restrictions here.

The reason I am asking for attention is that Barocca posted in the Dungeon on the 25th of Oct 2003 that someone should contact him from the METW mod so he can provide a tutorial on the castle icons that are placed on the campmap.

Anyways, since I am making the campmap for our METW mod, I should be involved building the castle icons to match the graphical style of the campmap.

Is there anyway that I can be put in touch with Barocca?

Cordially,
Helper.
