View Full Version : Maximizing Byzantine florins

I've posted this on a couple of other boards, both inferior to this one:

I'm about to begin a Byzantine campaign in the Early period with the sole intent of maxing out my cash. My game plan is to eliminate the Turks, and take everything from Egypt except Sinai and Arabia. I'll have rich farmland and trading provinces; boats will rapidly be built and sent across the world. I'll then sit back and let the money flow in while maintaining modest garrisons, including a bottleneck force in Georgia so that the Horde must go around the Black Sea (usually causing them to splinter).

Sound good? This is essentially my practice for making money with other factions and periods later on. I'm wondering if something can be done to enhance or correct my plan.

Oh yeah - I'll try and keep Naples (I managed to do it last game). Is it worth it to extend ships all the way to Britain?

It's worth it to have ships in every sea zone where someone has built a port. The existence of port means that they are open for business http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif and you will get trade income. Of course the port will have to be owned by a faction that is neutral or friendly-no trading with the enemy for MTW

If you keep Naples (quite an accomplishment IMHO http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ) then you may want to try picking up Sicily as well. Nice farmland and great trade income.

One thing that may help to increase trade income (long-term) is to pick up strategically placed provinces. Fleet maintenance increases with distance from a port that you own; a few well placed coaling stations will reduce costs.

Welcome to the .org

Good luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Sounds like a great plan, but I have a suggestion,
take Sweden or another rebelprovince with good trading stuff, both decreasing the ship supportcost, and trade income, as many rebelprovinces have nice tradegoods.

Used this nearly the same tactics yesterday and now I have a steady flow of thousand upon thousand of florins...even thought I have the greatest army and construct buildings everywhere...

Taking egypt, triploi and Antioch is usually a sure way to win if you have a trading netword...

Also sweeden, flandern, portugal and the black sea region are great...
