hi only been playing MTW for a couple of days but can't get my archers to fire their arrows even during the tuturiol, select archers, place cursor on the enmey, get a red arrow wait but nothing before i know it my archers are on the run what am i doing wrong[B] http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

If the arrow is red when you click, you are out of range. Your archers are running because enacting a fire order on an out of range enemy orders the archers to move into range.

I think BKS has the answer. Also, if you don't care which target they pick, put them on fire at will.

thanks for replying and have tried your suggestions but still doing something wrong, line my archers up wait for enemy to advance, but when the cursor is over them the red arrow stays red all the time. At what distance should they be in range?? if my archers dont fire not much point having them

The range for vanilla archers (Arbs and longbowmen are a different story) is actually shorter than most people think-I was certaintly suprised when I played the game. So use infantry as a screen to protect from cavalry, and move the archers closer. Or tech up and get some crossbowmen
