Saw the post Ten Geekiest Hobbies (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=11910) in the tavern and thought I'd ask around here, where we can all post. Any of y'all do historical miniatures?
I've been building kits for about a year, mostly Napoleonics from Verlinden. I'm just getting started on scratch building my own models. I'm working on torso modeling right now, getting the proportions right, etc. My first project will be Captain Aubrey from the Patrick O'Brian novels. If that goes well I am going to try a battle between SAP and heavy knights, out of the Battle of Stempach. Probably 25 Pikes in 54mm, make a mold and work off that, and then 5-10 knights, also off of a mold. It's old school modding http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

No, I'm not into making historical minatures, though it does sound interesting.

I've been building scale models for quite a while now and figures for some 12 years. You can go to http://www.planetfigure.com/index.php?Itemid=1 for help with your projects, great reviews they have there and a pretty decent forum too. Go to http://www.redlancers.com/ or modelmecca.com for models in case you don't know the places already.
I too am into Naps' medievals and romans. At The Red Lancers store you'll get the chance to buy a lot of the units we play with in the TW series. Like Gulhams, Biz infantry, longbowmen, vikings. mongol archers. You name it, it´s likely to be there.
Hope this helps. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I've used both sites, they're great references. What kind of models do you build scale/era?

Anything and everything historical before the XX cent. mainly Romans, Medievals and Napoleonics. Mainly 120mm and most are Verlinden. But lately Verlinden has been lagging behind, too basic to my taste. I've been dealing with Pegaso´s metal figures in 54mm, 75mm and 90mm scales and I highly recomend them all. Warriors and Fort Duquesne have superb but out of production historicals. Happy to assist if I can be of any help. Just PM me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
