Hello eveyone

I heard a song by a Turkish Grup Yorum recently. I can;t understand anything of it, so I request Balamir, Kanuni, Cebei or any other Turkish speakers to kindly translate a portion and give me the general meaning of the song.

Download the song by clicking this link, right click save as. (http://webplaza.pt.lu/shahid/downloads/Music/Grup%20Yorum%20-%20Genclik%20Marsi.mp3)

Selam bro,

Honestly I had never heard of the song nor the group until today so I'm really surprised that you heard songs of them back in school years http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .

It seems like a group of left wing, I guess closer to the extreme side of it.

The name of the song is anthem of the youth. The general meaning of the song is how they fight against imperialism, fascism and how they will continue fighting etc... etc... Right now I have to go to my uni soon so I did not do a word br word translation, but if you are interested, I will when I come home.

Hi man http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Thanks a lot for the info
Cebei Thanks a lot for your PM and translation

I heard Grup Yorum in 1995, when, I got a cassette from a Turkish friend. I was pretty sure that this song is a communist marching song. I have this other song on that same cassette which sounds much more militaristic, I am looking for it on the net in mp3 format. I don't have any extreme right or left inclination. But I do like military/revolutionary type songs. Not necessarily for content but for the music and how it sounds. I find that the communists (generally speaking) have very good choirs and orchestra (think Red Army choir)

How I found Genclik Marsi is because I was looking for a song to merge with video captire from the game America's Army. I wanted something slightly dramatic and intense.

Check it out, right click, save as:
Here's a short video I made as a TEST (http://webplaza.pt.lu/shahid/downloads/aaomovies/RTTEST2.wmv)

That's just a test video without any claim to artistic endeavor. The song is by the Persian singers Aref, and Dariush. It's an old folk song.

Well about communism, 2 of my high school teachers were amongst the founders of the failed Pakistan Communist Party. Other than that I have/had some friends who are/were communist. Including the young lady who introduced me to Grup Yorum. I don't know about politics on campus in Bilkent but generally speaking some students are quite politically active. At my school there was a decent amount of political participation. When I was at university I also wanted to learn about the governing systems, to understand them. Therefore I was actively seeking my position in the political spectrum, and validating it.

btw the ISOC is going online at about 1700 - 1800 tonight. Do come and join us if you have time. (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=10657;st=250)

Thanks again bro

OK here is the translation:

We, who have standed against the 6th fleet* and shouted our slogans of independence

We, who have united with all the classes of society in the glorious days of june

We are the youth and we are fighting against imperialism

We, the youth, the worker, student, villager fighting until victory

We have taken a step to fight having bravery and belief and aimed for the bright futures

Braking the occupies in schools, factories, country sides

We are youth and fighting against fascism

We'll keep fighting until it drowns under the blood it caused itself

We have standed up and roared on the april resistance, and we are after our fight

Our rising voice is for free futures

We are the youth and fighting against oligarchi

And we will keep fighting with the alongside of public until the day of liberation

*6th fleet was I think a fleet of the US navy on duty at east meditarrenean in the near past. (I don't know if it is still there with the same name) . And the Left wing Turks who hated US aimed their anger against them especially when they arrived near coastline of Turkey in 60's to stop the Turkish Navy which was preparing for an operation on Cyprus. They standed in the way of the Turkish Navy and caused the operation to be delayed for some years. But in 1974 without caring about the US, the Turks started their peace operation is Cyprus which was then followed by an embargo by the US which lasted about 2 years (IIRC)

However this song is not only against US, actually only the small portion was aimed towards it. It is more against the regime of Turkey which they consider a fascist regime not allowing the independence of individuals, bla bla bla

Hi bro, sorry didn't see your last post.

I'm also neither a left wing nor a right wing, and I do accept some of both of their ideas. But I do not like the likes of this group because they sound like the communists which support the terror and disorder caused by the fights in the end 70's which was ended by the military overtaking the government at 1980 similiar but much more bloody than what happenned in Pakistan with Pervez Muserref. (On a trip to Turkey Muserref adimitted that he admired the General Evren who was at top of military when the military overtook at Turkey and saw the overtaking as a guide for his. I saw this myself on TV as you know Muserref is a fluent Turkish speaker who spent many years in Turkey in his past)

P.S: If you are interested with a Turkish Anthem I may help you. What kind are you looking for? The Old Ottoman ones or new Turkish ones?

P.S2: I'll probably be online tonight bro, until 19.30 GMT. I'll watch the game of Besiktas in Champion's League after that time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah I dislike that point of view as well. Islamic, Communist, Imperialist or Capitalist. I dislike any philosophy which holds violence or subjugation as supremem. Anyway this is NOT a political thread, so I'll stop there.

Whoa yeah I sure am looking for Ottoman Anthems or Modern Turkish ones. I have a modern interpretaion of what I think was an Ottoman marching song.

I'm uploading it to the net, for download. Will post a link back in a few minutes.

Hey man Glad to know you will join us tonight. Faiz, Sjak, Apache and meself will be there too. So it's a full fireteam PLUS 1 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I'll be on MSN starting from 17:00-ish CET. Maybe SHak will join us too and then we'll be SIX
