Its very similar to the Pc game, except that you don´t have a battlefield.
You have little figures and coins.
Yeah its a bit like Risk.
I don't have it but I used to play it with my mates. Great game. It's plain to see where the map for STW came from. Just minor modifications.
Battle resolution is the typical system of each unit rolling a die with a unit specific probability of killing one opponent. Castles actually have a defensive merit, spawning defensive units if the province is attacked. You even get a plastic samurai sword to stab your fellow players.

I recently saw brand new boxes too. There are stores specialized in comics, comics related miniatures, wargame miniatures and boardgames in The Netherlands. Other countries may have something like that too. Browse around, use the local Yellowpages.

Excellent game.
My brother and his mates made some house rules. Essentially you got to choose one special ability which only one player could have.
For instance a castle would count as an extra province for troop deployment.
Better ability with the Ninja... a draw on cash you got it. The ninja also worked better for you and more likely to kill someone who used it against you.

Few years back I drew a map of Europe on a plaster board and played Napoleonic: Total War on it, but that was in the days of Shogun The Lordz took my idea http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Anyways 1 thing to note is that the boardgame called Shogun now has a new name but I forget what the name is but is exactly the same game. So you can get a brand new one or buy one of the classical ones but at a higher price. Even on the box in smallprint is says something like The boardgame foemerly called Shogun. I guess that artist formerly known as Prince bought the rights or something
it was re-released in 95,
called Samurai Swords
