been playing the game for a couple of months or so and finally got around to reading the threads on here at last.

couple of q's tho

fews people have mentioned about playing the russians (assume they mean the people of novograd) in the strategy game, I dont have this option and im playing with thelatest patch of VI, so am i missing something here.

next was reading a thread about various people controlling the king of england until he died etc, got to page 9 to find that the thread had been moved to the throne room. guess i must be going blind cos i cant see where that is :-(

got to say i am hooked on the game tho, plodding alonf slowly on easy at the moment only quirk ive found so far was invaded finland which was in rebellion also invaded novograd on the same turn, the novograds came along to help me in finland, they got trounced allowed me to mop up the pieces, retreated back to novograd, where they then got trounced by my invading force.

was good of them i thought :-)

In my experience the Russians were only a selectable player faction if you chose to start in the middle or high period.

Even though they exist in the Early period they do not appear to be player controlled.

The throne room is a sub forum. You'll find it in Story/PBM forum.

PoN are playable with a cpl of edits to startpos.

In Total War dir go to campmap open that; open the startpos folder.

In EARLY try the following:

Scroll down to SetActiveFaction:: change Novgorod from FT_MINOR to FT_MAJOR. This will allow you to select Novgorod in Early as a faction.

If you want Offices as well.

Go to HIGH and copy all of AddOffice:: FN_Russian
Paste this to the bottom of AddOffice in EARLY and change RUSSIAN to NOVGOROD. This should get you offices as well.

Before doing anything save copies of your, as yet untouched, EARLY and HIGH texts to a folder...just in case something doesn't work quite right http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

many thanks Bunny

will give that a go as i want to give them a run out as they are always the first people i seem to conquer, then quickly look around for an eligible princess to marry off to the mongol king, so would be a nice change to see if i can turn the tables and take over scandinavia and the british isles

give them a go in high (my prefered starting period) they've got a decent starting postion (with muscovy as their new 'capitol&#39http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif and have a real challenge to face with the emergence fo the golden horde. they even have a Glorious Achievement of 'survive the golden horde.' i'm pretty sure some of their fun stuff isn't available in early anyway (maybe boyars are, but not druzhina or rus spears (?)).

a great fun faction.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Hello Derfal Cadarn. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif I guess the abundance of help you are getting is better than any welcome I could give you. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Nothing beats a Welcome from Gregoshi Complete with the trademark http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Good luck on playing PoN; the money is very tight, if nothing else you learn how to get ANY economy up and running http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You get Rus spearmen right away. They be good, but disappear before you can upgrade armour much.
Druzinha cavalry can be built as well. You will be able to build them before you meet the build req's for Boyars http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Just don't build too many til you get money flowing in like water...they have expensive upkeep. Remember you can dismount them before combat; great for bridge or castle assualts.
