Help with patches for MTW and VI

Hi my first post here and I need help great start eh, well I just bought the game and I installed MTW , after that I installed VI and then the newest MTW patch and the newest VI patch, but now reading the manual which i should have done first(ops), it says that VI had the MTW patch upgrade on it and that can mess your game up if you install the patch again over it.

I know this might have sounded confusing but what should I do

leave it the way it is or
uninstall both games and resinstall them and only apply the new VI patch

I'd do an uninstall and then resinstall of MTW and VI, followed by an install of the VI patch.
