Hi guy's, I'm new to this board, I just picked up the game two weeks ago and haven't seen my family since.

One question, I'm playing as the English(1234ad. difficulty Normal) and I'm having quit a scrap with the Spaniards. So i've taken some provinces but I've had to pull out of some, in doing so i'been destroying buildings on the way out.
Problem is, when I take the province back, I can't build any military buildings even if I built a fort or a keep.

How can I get over this, or am I being punished for being a mean guy?

You should be able to build again once you have retaken the province - sounds like maybe a bug or your game has been corrupted but I have not heard of this before? What version are you playing and have you patched at all?

make sure you take some time out to see your family just so that they don't call in the men with white coats to take you away

That is a strange problem. It does not sound familiar to me. A little more information is needed.

Shouldn't occur normally... Which version of MTW did you purchase? Only MTW v1.0? Or also the add-on Viking Invasion?

If you just own the vanilla MTW, I'd try installing the v1.1 patch which can be found at the .com site or also here in the downloads section of the .org, I think.
Same goes for VI, download the 2.01 patch. It might not fix the issue in your current game, but it may help preventing it in future campaigns...

PS: Stupid question, but do you totally own the province or is the castle still in enemy hands? If so, then you can't build anything in that province...

May not be so stupid, it seems as the only explanation available, unless he's not reconstructing the infrastructure as it should.

have you built a town watch yet? that's pretty much the first building in the military tech tree and you can't build spearmakers or archers until you have one in that province..

Hi guy's, thanks for the help. To awnser some questions, I was running MTW with patch 1.1 up to Saturday when I upgraded to Viking Invasion but trhat one is no patched yet.
Yes I do own the province, and by the way there is never a stupid question when troubleshooting. I make a living of asking these http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.

I will check if I have a Town watch and I'll get back to you

P.S. only kidding about the family, I do give her a kiss before wasting 3-4 hrs on this.

Did you continue the saved game after installing VI and did the problem occur before & after install?

You cannot continue a saved game after installing mtw 1.1 patch and I would suspect this would be true for adding VI as it changes some of the units and adds others so game data would have changed and save game data would therefore not be compatible with new game data.

If you really want to continue the campaign and have the dard disk space, re-intsall mtw (patch to 1.1) and copy save game file to new install of mtw. That way you can also play VI as well if you want.

Leastways I think that is your problem - can anyone else confirm I am actually making sense???

Well, if you continue a game after upgrading to VI, your chances are 50/50 of it actually loading. Sometimes you only get a black screen after loading, which in some cases can be fixed by hitting Esc for the in-game menu and then resuming the game, but often the game fails to load or just simply crashes to desktop.
If it loads, there's still a chance some weird things will happen, possibly also the problem at hand.
However if it occured while still playing under v1.1, and there's absolutely nothing to select in the build parchment, then I'm afraid I have no idea of how to fix it... perhaps try destroy some structure and see if you can build it again..
