First of all, let me say that I am not unhappy with any Moderators, this is just curiosity, so don't feel that I am coming after your fame, fortune, or harems. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
I'm just curious as to how people become moderators. Is there a selection process with nominations like the HOF forum or do you get a tap on the shoulder from a mysterious person in a cloak who tells you the password? Or is there a middle ground between the two?

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif I'd like to think that there is some kind of drinking contest involved. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Assistant moderators, at least the two in existance so far, get selected by patrons nominating and then voting people of their choice. You can still see some of the threads involved in this process in the early topics in the Throne Room, the ones in the Mead Hall were deleted.

Full moderators, well I couldn't really say.

Well, in my case, I just acted like being a mod all the time and some day - I was one. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You just need to be the type of person who has a good sense of humour who doesn't flare... Rob and the picture of his 'sister' is a good case in point.

Typically it depends on which forum you frequent. The need for a new moderator.

Post count is important from the point of view of having ones finger on the pulse of the forum.

More important is the ability to dampen flames and not be biased.

Essentially you act as a moderator until you get the official title... all that means is more work.

First you have to be sexy. Secondly, you must have some secret ability like flying, invisibility, or babe pictures.

Actually I was made mod just by hanging around long enough and making sure the Admins knew who I was. sort of the way Mith became a mod.

I'm surprised that there isn't some kind of epic contest, you know pound a thirty rack of pabst, wrestle a bear, fight a mensur dual with Tosa, drinking contest a la Raiders of the Lost Ark or something like that. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif Or at the very least some handball http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/handball.gif

Well, there are of course secret rituals to determine the rank order.

You have the same account (Login: Demon of Light password: Maelstrom[or whatever]) but Tosa activates privilages for you. Remember how as a Junior Patron you couldn't edit your posts? Remember when the edit button appeared? Same idea. At the bottom of the screen you have a moderators toolbox or at the bottom of a thread you are viewing you have a list of extra options. There is no nifty new password. I believe that there is a forum that only moderators can see (I can't because I still have that assistant tag on me) and I suspect that this might play a role in selection. I can't be cerain though because I've never seen it. (I asked Tosa about it once and he gave me an answer more befitting a CIA agent than a game site administrator. Suffice to say he was vague.)

and what you see on the regular Org forums is just the tip of the iceberg compared to the blistering action, babes, photoshopped pics, downloadable files and joking that happens in secret http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
