I devote this thread to one-and-only soccer team management game, divine, holy and exhalted Championship manager. CM3, CM4, 00-01,01-02, whatever floats your boat.

I also play quite a bit of CM...

The last version which i had was the 02/03 season...

Only memorable game of note was to take a Conference League team, Rushden and Diamonds, to the PremierLeague and win the League. The next season, i got relegated... Its a tough one...

Naah, it's not. You just bumped it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

I have played CM too. I've even played it a lot. I know, it is not common for a girl to like soccer management games, but well... I do (or at least: I did).
The last version I played was CM4 (season 02/03 was CM4,right?), but I gave up the game because I found it too complicated (I couldn't motivate myself anymore to learn every detail of the game) + I got bored with some (seemingly) bugs that made your opponents score 1 goal when they got 1 chance, while you oughta be lucky to score 1 goal out of 15 chances. I know these things can happen (sometimes you just run into some bad luck), but I got frustrated that this happened EVERY time.
Now I've borrowed my copy to a friend who likes football much more than I do. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
BTW, if there are some CM addicts on this forum, perhaps someone can give me some good tips? Any tips would be welcome. Perhaps I can reinstall the game on my pc, and try to run a campaign again.

Yeah youre the first girl playing CM that I know. CM4 is the newest CM and is free of any bugs, that were rife in the previous version.

I'd say begin with Bayern Munich, because it is the easiest team to start with. It has a very well established team with uber-coaches. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

I agree the training is very complex but you can get a grasp of it within a week.

My bro' is a CM addict. Whenever he decides to play, I give my http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif to the computer and wait for my turn...at best until the next day. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Hehe, get him a CM4, it is rather slow and gives you little thinking spaces to realize there is a life outside.

I can't remember that I've ever played with a German team... Could be a new experience.

I usually preferred to play any English competition; I love the English teams a lot. The first CM game I played was the 92-93 season I believe (the one with Liverpool and its youngsters, redknapp mcmanaman etc, as a potential über-team). The following years i watched a lot of match of the day with my friend, and since then the premier league (and the lower leagues) get my preference...

I haven't played CM4 (02/03) a lot, because of the aforementioned complexity... So, hmm, the training schedules really do influence your team's results?

Training schedule is everything. You can create a Michael Owen out of an 18 y/o with a good training schedule, or an incompetent idiot with a bad schedule. It affects your players' stats to a great extent and also team's ability to work as a team and co-ordinate better.

Besides it is a great thing to see a young 16 year old you got free, develop into a worldclass player in 6-7 years.

Remove the ram slots. That should do it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

OK. I think the problem is that I just don't have the patience to wait so long.
BTW, I usually got kicked out after 1,5 season at the helm of a team http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Guess my managerial abilities were not that superb... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-curtain.gif

PS. Yay. This topic is alive and kicking (again)

My favourite two spells on CM3/4 have been with aberdeen and plymouth argyle Europes fine and all but i prefer the gritty relegation battles when u have (sometimes literally) no money to spend.

I do love what they've done with CM4, watching all those dots run around the screen adds to the ohhh, ahhh, U MUPPET moments http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

How did I miss this thread http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.

I LOVE Championship Manager 03/04.

Currently I am in the attempted process of taking York City to the Premier League. In my first season we came 11th in Division 3 BUT we beat Arsenal in the F.A. Cup Final. Season after we got promoted to Divison Three, it took us 2 seasons to get into Division One and now I am about to start my third year in the First Division, hopefully I'll get promoted to the Premier League this year because I certainly need the cash to inject some money into Bootham Crescent because I believe I have the smallest stadium in the league. Still, my biggest moment remains the F.A. Cup victory over Arsenal, mostly because I'm a York City fan (Bloody crap season for us in the real world though).

Bah. Soccer. It is just trying to give real AMERICAN football fans confused.

I've thought about trying it before but I don't know anything about soccer. I wish there was a good American football management game though. I'm stuck playing the management side of Madden 04... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Yes....American football is the real football....even though they rarely use their foot at all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.

I wudn't worry about that too much, SI are already maiking Hockey and Baseball management games, I don't see why they wouldn't venture into American Football too.

Just so everybody knows, get Football Manager 2005 NOT Championship Manager 5. Reason is that Eidos and Sports Interactive (the developer) have split, and Eidos have kept the CM name but nothing more while SI have kept all the code and database so FM2005 is the game you all know and love, not the CM5 game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

They're making a baseball management sim? I'll have to look into that...

Would it be out here, or would I have to order from overseas?
