Ever since I finished BG II and ToB I wanted to go back and replay the original BG (and its expansion) but every time I started I was turned off by the very outdated game engine, especially the 640x480 resolution.
Well, with all the talks about BG and BG II on these forums I went down the memory lane and wandered the various BG websites. To my surprise and delight I stumbled across and wonderful mod that lets you play BG on the BG II engine It imports the original BG files into BG II directories (of course, you need to have both games installed). Excellent
And now I am happily playing BG with 1280x960 resolution, BG II character kits, improved gameplay (press TAB to highlight ) and all other BG II goodies.
The installation took about 10 minutes (including reading the instructions) and now several hours into the game it seems relatively bug free (only a couple of crashes, but I think it was because I tried to import a character from an original saved game).
Applause to the people who made BG1tutu (http://japh.fwstudios.net/bg1tutu/)
By the way, there is also a project called Icewind Gate II (http://weidu.org/iwg2) that lets you play BG II on the Icewind Dale II engine, with 3rd edition AD&D rules and all that.
