A Total War free counterpart to the Mead Hall's Total War screenshot thread (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=24;t=9495).
A few rules, all very simple.
1.Keep your picture size small in KB We have people using 56k modems and below so try to be considerate. JPG format is a good balance between size and quality, GIF is also good.
2.Keep image size less than 600 pixels wide so those viewing the site in 800x600 resolution don't have their screen messed up.
3.Nothing breaching the TOS, so keep those screenshots from the nude patch on Xtreme Beach Volleyball to yourselves.
4.Only screenshots you have taken from games that have been released as we would really like to avoid being hit by angry people whose images you have 'borrowed' to post here. It is acceptable for people to advertise upcoming games for non-profit reasons, but not in this thread. This rule also prevents people from posting pics from illegal alpha and beta games downloads.
If you have no hosting space of your own a new area has been opened up to host the pics here at the org. Voigtkampf has kindly agreed to look after this space as well as the sig/avatar space. Upload your pictures here: games screenshot uploader (http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Uploaders/gamesupload.php) and then check this page (http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/games/) to see when your screenshot is ready for use. To test the system and get the ball rolling one solitary screenshot from Neverwinter Nights Hordes of Underdark expansion.
SORT OF SPOILER WARNING this screenshot may be considered spoilers by people who have not yet reached chapter 3 I deeply apologise for this but this screenshot is the only non-TW screenie I have at the moment, lingering on my hard drive long after the game has gone. The game I am playing at the moment doesn't have a inbuilt screenshot capture, and I am not going to reinstall a load of games just to take another screenshot Besides this one is quite good http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-grin.gif Just skip this post and don't look at the picture.

My 'dragon knight' (red dragon disciple 10, fighter 13) fighting it our with support from Aribeth and Deekin, note the way his armour matches his wings, and his sword glows red...a happy accident. He also had a steel bucket helm with red trim but I took that off for the screenshot. Don't look at me for the source of the dopey name - it was a pregenerated one If you want to know why this is a male character, well I don't like the female voice sets yet again

ok, Here are 4 screens from one of my favorite games of all time, Cossacks: The Art of War (I'm still playing it).
Now, the first one is myself and a friend (mr. poo hehe) defending an elevation we're using as a launcpad to attack and enemy. I am the Prussians in front, and my aly is the Russians in the last two rows (Teal, or whatever that color is):

This last screen is large battle (not scenario staged, the computer, myself, and my ally built up our armies and engaged an advancing French army) where the enemy armies slowly advance on each other while the cannon in the middle are being captured by both sides and aren't sure exactly which way to fire. (this battle was extremely close btw, I won, but I had 4 men and one canon left http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

A couple of screens from Thief 1, yes I know they are both right from the start of the first level but I was trying out some free screenshot grabber I downloaded. Ignore the 'load failed', the take screenshot button was bound to the same thing as quickload. Yes they are kind of dark, but that is how you play the game.

go to the LOMAC thread guys and check out the movie I just posted there. It's pretty cool and only 29 Megs for about 5 minutes of beautiful cinematic footage.
Forgot to mention all the screenshots I post are MULTIPLAYER shots. All the pilots in the flyable aircraft are human in all shots.

Well thanks but I generally spend a lot of time on screenshots and movies. I just love the visuals and the graphics. I tend not to think of it as promotion work (but it probably is as a side effect). Remember the TW screenshot thread, heaven know show many I posted there, it's the love of the game.
Indeed most of those screenshots are missions flown by our squadron, and I also want to have something to look back upon years later and say hey THAT was FUN. This is a record of our squadron ops.

It is CPU intensive not only becuase of the graphics but also becuase of the complex, realistic modelling of the MANY weapons and platforms. It should not be expected to run great on a machine that is more than a year or two old.
The next generation of videocards and CPUs may run this game closer to it's maximum potential. At that time we may see some real screenies, but till then we shall have to live with it's hidden grandeur.
It runs great on my PC as you can see. My specs:
-P4 2.6
-RAD 9700 PRO
The rest is the usual (1 GiG RAM etc), this was a top of the line PC about June last year. The newer 9800XT and 5950 cards really run this game as a dream. I'll pass on those though and I'll most probably opt for the next generation. I know a lot of people who bought this game and about a week later bought a 5950 / 9800XT or a whole new PC. A bit like a lot have or may do for RTW..
It takes alot more time than most can imagine to get a good screen and any feedback is always appreciated. Got some more to share, here. These are not that high quality but ok I guess. And thats with the lowest resolution possible in the game and all graphics options on very low.
I did not try it yet, but yeah looks real good. I tried Far Cry, finally and that's also excellent graphics though I doubt they are as good as Doom3.

That's a funny shot from FB, well actually that used to happen to me a lot in LOMAC as well, untill I decided not to remain engaged head on longer than a few seconds, it's even more deadly against a missile armed opponent. I found in FB it's still feasible to go head on, but in Lomac more than a few seconds is certain death unless faced by some newb.
The Addon I mentioned earlier is for LOMAC. So far it's called LOMAC Version1.1, it will probably get a new name shortly, but that is the develpment designation (I guess). It will primarilty be available in the CIS (ex USSR) states, but all of us in the West can order online or download online (LEGALL PURCHASE).

Indeed I can;t wait for the BoB to come out as well. I think that it will be much better than the current engine, for FB/PF. I love props as well, hell, that's where the whole story of energy management begins (for me). You have a lot more up close and personal, in props than in jets. In LOMAC either you or your enemy is dead before he sees you, this is specially true in squadron vs squadron (online) fights. In LOMAC you do get some up close and personal, but it's only when the opponents are evenly matched and both sides know how to evade each other's missiles. THEN and only then you get to get in close, and closer. THat's what I love about props it's all up close, filling up your windscreen. That and of course the more complex engine and aircraft management. In jets the onboard coputer aids reduce the amount of multitasking (somewhat) that you have to do. OTOH you still have to do plenty in jets as the game is the same just with a few more balls.
The MIg-29 screens in the last batch I posted is not actually a Mod. This friend of mine who's studying graphics design in Oslo, is doing us a squadron skin for that aircraft. In order to do the skin correctly he has to first make all the rivets, joints and airframe "connections" onto the 3d model of the aircraft. he does this in Photoshop (I assume). Once that is done, he then has to apply weathering (wear and tear) to the airframe. After that is the final step of painting the aircraft.

Since Valve have just released a new multiplayer level of Half Life 2 that uses High Dynamic Range Lighting, they were talking about it as though invented the technololgy and are leading the way with it. So I thought id post a couple of screenies that show what it did to a different game when they implemented it 6 months ago on a game already over a year old...
The full screen was taken at 1600x1200 then resized to 600px wide and merged together. The second comparison shot is a section cropped from the original screens at full resolution, its also a png to preserve image quality.
As you can see the future of gaming is looking bright ~:)

For those that are interested, the way in which pixels are generated are set to change radically - currently, color on a PC screen is made up an 8 bit integer triad (thats 3 numbers of between 0 and 255) and the power of floating point calclulations is not utilised when generating graphics. High Dynamic Range lighting introduces floating point calculation into the process, allowing for an infinite number of steps between 0 and 255, rather than limiting it just 256 differant values for each prime color - therefore allowing much more accurate and realistic lighting conditions, as you can see from the above screens ~:)
The only downside is that currently, High Dynamic Range lighting is only implemented in the very latest chipset (only nvidia as well i think), and it doesnt support antialiasing when enabled. Also, it almost kills even the latest and greatest vid cards at high resoltutions.

The Daemonhunters mod is indeed great. The Ordo Mallus faction that the mod introduces includes both the Steel legion of Armageddon (Imperial guardsman shown in my screenies) and the Grey Knights. Being of The Emperor's stock, its no surprise Grey knights are practically god-like (but VERY expensive).
They are a fun faction to play and i'd recommend you try out the mod. since some of the models share paint schemes, you can only really play against Orks and Chaos. If you play against the Eldar or space marines the enemy colors won't display correctly.
Though thats only a minor concern, as the Steel legion would only fight Orks in the TT (they are Ork fighters after all) and the Grey Knights hardly ever fight anything other than Chaos.

Any of you that played Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear online, will know that its almost impossible to get 8 kills in a single game, much due to the skill of the game and that it was hard to find good servers that could hold 16 players at a time with no lag. In six years of playing it i only saw it once...and here i am :2thumbsup:

Hilarious screenshot which still makes me laugh, again from Rainbow Six Rogue Spear. This was taken during a ladder match, 3vs3, and my team was one map away from winning. We were quite bored as the enemy team were very poor so we thought for a laugh we'd just all climb up a ladder and stay there for as long as the enemy team didnt find us.
Twenty minutes passed and they never found us, of course we got accused of cheating :laugh4: Funny days.

Yep. It's the Shockwave P-51. Really nice plane. The other is my Captain Sim 707 package, it has an AWACS variant included.
I took the screen using a great little FS recorder program that lets you record a flight, then play it back during another flight. I recorded a C-130 taking off and flying away, then recorded this AWACS coming in for a landing.
I took off in the Mustang, hit playback for the two recorded flights, circled back and followed the C-130 taking off, then met up with my AWACS buddy as he was on final. Great utility, lets you build a very interesting AI traffic routines and it's very easy to use. Really sparks up your flying.
In this one I recorded an F-104 takeoff and landing, then started the playback while I was in the second Starfighter. Did a nice tandem takeoff, a short flight, and a tandem landing. Lol, legging it to the fight must have been fun. I remember legging all of the way across continents to a battle only to get killed in the first few minutes after finally showing up at the fight.
What side are you fighting on? How long have you been playing? It has been almost a year since I last played. I think I might re-subscribe and join in the fight again.

Haha I can feel ya on that one. I hate the NC jackhammer and maxes, especially when they rush*shivers*. I like the TR for their simplicity, although I played as the VS for a long time and the lasher is(was) freakin awesome and the fact you can drive across water while the others have to fight on bridges is sweet. Although I will admit the NC mechs are pretty sweet.

Gah.. those mechs are a bloody nuissance. Last time I was on TR were getting their arses handed to them by just three mechs, a bomber, two mosquitos, and a handful of cloaked players at Ishundar(?). Despite there being close to 40 of us we managed to lose the entirety of the map in under an hour. :laugh4:

No prizes for guessing what game the below screenshot is for, and a kick if you don't have it. Here's a decent little army I'm going to use on Tokugawa. Each of those Transports you see is stuffed with Modern Armor, Artillery and Mechanized Infantry, or other high tech units. After I show Tokugawa how useless he is I'm going to punish Hannibal for building a spaceship. I have about 10 ICBMs ready for him, when the time comes. The ruins you see are the ruins of the Spanish civilization I pulverised. You can see the empty continent where Isabella used to reign until my panzers had a say.

You could go get a job you know, best way to get your computer games and hardware is to get to work .
With a minimum wage of 7$/day u'll need to work just 3 days to get the 20$ after which u can quit your Job, and play civ IV of eternity.

Oh...the public beta...I'm surprised it was released seeing as the game isn't until September, and also the fact that they let you do multiplayer on it. I would be concerned that it would affect their sales.

It has only three maps, two if you don't preorder. So it can only affect their sales in a positive way since the game is great. And less bugs in the final game due to the beta test should also improve their sales.
CMSF maybe doesn´t look as good as WiC but gfx isnt what battlefront is known

Yeh it kind is like that... But a major bug in M2TW is that if your army is all archers or muskets and they are lined up and not moving the enemy stops about 50 or so yards away then gets wasted

One day I was playing strike (I think) and my score was like 20-30; not good. Then within two minutes I had gotten 18 more kills and 0 deaths such that I saved the +. :2thumbsup:
Whenever I join a new server I first check the score limit. If it is 750 I quit; 2000 is best and 1250 is minimum in my opinion.

Mine's WoE, tons of add-ons, Israel and Germany addon scenery packs, going to install Britain and reinstall Bering Strait. I love some of the free planes - there are literally hundreds available for download.
