Bought this game last year and was initially very excited about how it looked. Large amount of customizable units, economic and diplomatic elements, all set in the WWII era. Unfortunately, after trying to play the game and having everything fall apart on me very early every time (mainly around the economic management and commodity trading side of things), I just gave up. This is the only game I have ever done this with. I can't help having the feeling that there is something fundamental I am missing that would make the game playable once I figured it out. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Anyone else have any experience with this game?

Just take a stop and look on the forums. That game is an absolute blast once you figure it out.

I think this would be fun if not for the massive bugs. I have yet to play through a war without a bug sabotage.

They're called patches. Quite useful new invention. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Took me a full year to work out what was happening. LOVE IT NOW.

That's a general rule for PARADOX games(HoI, Victoria, EU series, Crusader Kings soon) : the first version is full of bugs, the later versions are full of fun. HoI rocks. But the 1.05c, not the 1.00 unplayable thing...

I'm guessing you never played Europa Universalis 2 so HoI looks complex. Try EU2 first to get the feeling of Paradox engine.

BTW if you think HoI is complex try Victoria - there are few dozen trade goods to manage beside dozen factory types and even more provinces. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Exelent game,

Takes a bit to get into, but well worth the hours to learn.

Side note : do not forget to DL the CORE mod, once you're in the thing. More enjoyment. More fun.

Its a good game once u patch it...just need to take your time and learn..how many games let you set the entire world on fire with war..not many. I love playing the UK. Can be a real challenge at times.

I didn't know about this CORE project. Is it better? I understand that a new 6.0 patch is due to come out soon. How would it affect an installed CORE game?

It's much harder and requires a lot of fine-tuned economics. I've never played it but it has a lot more events, and supposedly the AI is better.

Good to know, thank you.

The AI is far better, & launches nice landings, that the standard engine is unable to manage. Difficulty is higher, mainly because Events have more impact & punish non-historical behaviours.

Played HOI; patched HOI; played HOI; patched HOI; played HOI; patched HOI; Returned HOI.

Released version didn't work; six patches later, A1 still dosen't fortify; Britain dosen't defend; Almost anyone with a cargo ship can steal Albania's oil; Heavy felony to release a game that -either developers didn't check to see if it works - or knew that it didn't work. Imagine selling a car that didn't run or a computor etc., that didn't work.?
