I would assume that we all have spent countless hours playing the Total War games, but I thought it might be worth a thread to see what other big time wasters we all have been involved with.

Most of my time has been spent playing off-line single player, but I have done a bit of on-line flight combat.

Anyway here is my list in no particular order.

Red Baron 3D

Silent Hunter

Panzer Commander

European Air War

Shogun Total War

Medieval Total War

Only EAW and MTW are still on my hard drive, but I when I buy my next PC upgrade, I plan on keeping my current rig as a legacy system, so STW, Red Baron 3D, and maybe even PzC will be re-installed.

God, the hours I spent playing those games. I still play MTW almost weekly if not daily.

cheers

After MTW it would have to be Civilization II/III and Caesar III.

HoMM 2 I think was the biggest. MTW would be the second. Also,
Pirates and War in the Middle Earth on C64
EU2
Pharaoh
AoE 2
MoO 2
Space Empires 4

I usually have a good memory, and never replay games such as adventures or RPGs, which significantly reduces their time on my HD, however good that time may be. And in turn, that's why I love random map generators, open-ended freeform games, etc.

TIE Fighter and Diablo 2 wasted a good amount of my life.

The game that wasted the majority of my time:
Medieval Total War, when making mods.

The game that the most time spent (and enjoyed) playing:

Civ and Civ2 lead the way: endless, endless hours of the one more turn, one more bloody turn syndrome. I've missed countless dates, got the sack by half a dozen gfs, almost got sacked from a job, came on bad terms with my best mate - all due to my affection to that extremely devastating game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've played for many, many hours (and enjoyed) Master of Orion 2, HOMM 2&3, STW, MTW, Civ3, BG&BG2.

I would have to say CivII (III was simply... ick) and Master of Magic would tie as second in the most time spent playing

Mount Suribachi

Champ Manager 00/01

Alpha Centauri

Baldurs Gate (finished it 2 and a half times)

Baldurs Gate 2 (finshed it 1 and a half times)

MTW

NHL series - from NHL 94 right through till NHL 2004 I've played dozens & dozens of seasons.

When i was younger alot of the games for N64, Mario being one of them. I remember when my little brother erased my game when i needed one more star, i think i had 119/120http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-speechless.gif

All the total war games, all enjoyable though.

I always use to suck at the resident evil games and some dinosaur game like it on the Playstation but the name evades me at present

Scourge,

You may not be aware, but a dedicated Red Baron Community still exists, and they have done quite a bit for the old game.

New planes
Improved wire frame models
New cockpits
New terrain
New Skins
New maps and campaigns

and best of all a glide wrapper' that allows one to enjoy graphics of the old glide based Voodoo cards but using the newer NVidia and ATI graphics cards.

Check out these links over at SimHQ;

Sadly, I doubt there will ever be a Sierra sequel to RB,
but there is hope on the horizon.

A new WW 1 flight sim called Knights over Europe is due out by the end of this year.

Check it out here

After the obligatory TW series, in no particular order, these games took away many hours that could have been usefully spent:

Fallout 2
X Wing
TIE Fighter
Master of Orion 2

Norseman
04-06-2004, 22:02
-Battle of Britain: really, really old flight combat sim , from Lucasarts I think. Could have 16 aircrafts in the air at any time and had a mission builder, a revolution back then
-Air War over Europe(think it was called that): Slightly newer than BoB, more aircrafts in the air and a great dynamic campaign with some historical missions and heroes included. Fun to dogfight aces like Josef Priller, Hermann Graf etc in campaign.
Spent an awful lot of time on these two...

Others...
-Championship Manager
-Tie Fighter
-Master of orion II
-Panzer General
-Shogun/MTW of course...

Cebei

Wow, Norseman's list more or less..

-Championship Manager (probably most addictive game in history)
- Tie Fighter (damn I finished it, like.. duh I dont remember)
-MTW.. (especially the time it took to train myself on units, one on one customs battles for who does what to which unit kind of scenarios)
-THIEFFF (Show thyself)
-Aaaand... Winning Eleven (Hettoodee, Kiipaa bammbürüüü) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Komutan

-Medieval:Total War
-Civilization(all 3 games)
-Starcraft(multiplayer, mostly online)
I think for 2 years I spent most of my nights playing Starcraft.

I have found 2 games that I can't seem get enough of, no matter how much I play.
1. MTW tops my list by a huge margin. The time I've spent on it is extreme, but far from wasted. Strangely, although I loved STW, I couldn't play it as much as MTW and always needed breaks from it.
2. Counter-Strike is the second. I can go whole days in one sitting while hardly tiring of it. After a good night's sleep I'm hungry for it again and I've been playing it for 4 years now.

Honourable mentions would be:
Civilization II
Alpha Centauri
Master of Orion II
The Manager (on ZX Spectrum)
Capitalism II
X-COM: UFO Defense
MUDs (online text based RPGs)

These honourable mentions have each received hundreds of hours from me (literally, Capitalism II logs the time on each game and there are several hundred hours there) but still are nowhere near MTW or Counter-Strike in time spent. Life is great.

XCOM Apocalyse
Frontier Elite 2
Sid Meyers Colonisation
Morrowind
Quake (old serial lead multiplay http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
Pirates

And so many that i cant remember

I can't really recall from when I was still playing on the SNES, but on the PC (of which I can remember it a bit better) I played the following games for a lot of hours:

- Warcraft II + first expansionpack.
- Diablo II + LOD expansionpack.
- Starcraft + Broodwar expansionpack.
- Delta Force 2.
- Delta Force: Landwarrior.
- Medieval: Total War (Although I started with STW, STW didn't work properly on my old machine. So I couldn't play it all that much. When I got a new PC MTW already came out and by the way I had bought it before upgrading).
- The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind + Tribunal & Bloodmoon expansionpacks.
- Counterstrike.
- Jagged Alliance 2.
- Close Combat IV.

Can't really remember any others I've extensively played, but there must be some others, especially SNES games.

This one is the most recent. Then BGII (roughly 5 games finished), X-Wing Alliance, and ,probably the big hitter, Heroes of Might and Magic III.
