Well ive had this game for ages, and ive made a few cities, so i decided om off to make another one, but this time ill be taking pics and showing you all the progress from a sleepy hic town to bustling metropolis.

The pics are quite large in file size, so they may take some time to DL, ill probably re-adjust the level of compression to a greater one next post due to my webhost running out of room fast if i keep them at this rate of compression

Anyway, onto the city.

here is a pic of my town in its first few years of development. In the bottom left you can see a coal mine and an industrial area. This is what kicked off the boom in this sleepy little area. Some other noticable landmarks are the new water tower on the hill at the left, and the new highschool with its playing fields in the top area.

here is the main street, with its shops, you can see a burger king down the bottom (thanks to a lot of Mods people now can create and design all thier own buildings)

http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl0eyo/Raven/SC4pics/SC4c.jpg
Here is a close up of the mining and industrial center

The town started to grow, with new buisnesses moving in and the high school putting out a higher level of education. Soon a Walmart was built to cope with the daily shopping needs of this small town

http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl0eyo/Raven/SC4pics/SC4d.jpg
Also, a new rail line was built, and a rail yard to match. A sbustation for the power was also built (bottom)

http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl0eyo/Raven/SC4pics/SC4e.jpg
And now the town at night. You can see the new areas developed in the outskirts, as well as a new radio transmitter(left)

by now the population is getting rich off the coal boom. There are mansions opping up all over the place. This can only mean good news for future developments

Hey you got a burger king growing in your city Is that some kind of mod?

Are you using the expansion, Rush Hour?

You reminded me that now that I have my new PC (well, now it's semi new) I need to install Simcity 4. I'm installing right now. Maybe I'll make my own journal once I've gotten the hang of it. Then again I never got the hang of it the first time I had it installed...

I made a city but it's really pathetic so far. I'm making about $300 profit but losing 1,700 in expenses

Alrowan

yeah, with all the patches and updates, not to mention mods, its possible to get those massive sky scrapers.

nightcrawler, with the income, you need to spend money to make money. Always invest in elementary schools and health. But bring the sliders down to as low as u can without losing quality, same with power, you should soon start making a profit. If not there are some mods and custom lots that give you lots of cash ;)

I'm used to SC3000. You could just make a garbage deal with your neighbors and make loads of cash. Now I have no neighbors...

Heres a trick:
1. Build a huge amount of libarys.
2. Lower the budgeting to about 3 $ for each or more according to the pop size.
3. Allow the high tech industry to build.

Building a lot of schooling buildings and lowering the funding of each one will give you more effect for each you build.

its in the mydoccuments/simcty4/albumns/ folder

to be able to post them, you need to convert them to a suitable format (JPG or GIF) because the raw format they are taken in is PNG and each pic is like 1.5MB

as for web hosting, im just using my isp's space they have given me

John86

Heres my city: It didnt convert well to Gif or Jpeg.

I've started to make a profit I got the missile testing zone and the military base so with that extra $800 a month I'm making a bit of cash now. I'm going to have to start a new city soon however, because I've run out of space. I used a small lot instead of a large one.

Alrowan
05-15-2004, 02:13
i use PSP 7 for my converting. I have the compression rate fairly low, so it still keeps most of the detail, but it takes up a lot of space still. I need ot find that mid point where i get good detail and little space

Yeah, I also eager to see more images... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif

This topic renews my interest in SC4 too. I've logged in on the website dessa recommended (www.simtropolis.com) and there are a lot of mods/additional buildings to download. Lots of them look fabulous

Anyone knows what's the difference between the Lot and Bat packages? And where to install them too?

heres a tip, if you don't know already you can alter the funding to civil service buildings individually, so bring all the schools, hospitals etc down to just above the amount of clients they are currently processing.
thanks, dessa

(BTW, i believe car ferries may be faster then bridges? i will need to investigate more)

thanks, dessa
