OK my fellow Euro's, do you like Eurovision ?

a very simple question, Yes/No or Gah

JAG

Voted Gah The music is shite, but it is so funny to watch them sing and give it all with rubbish performances it makes it worth while so Gah was the vote.

Its one of those things that people love or hate, a couple i know always spend it at the girl's mums house getting drunk (apparently i'm invited but i have another party (thank god)).

The music is terrible, but thats just my opinion.

There's only one way to truly enjoy it and that is in an intoxicated state. My friends used to throw Eurovision parties where the rule was to drink alcohol from the country performing at any time. With ca. 30 countries participating back then we were in a pretty pathetic state by the time of the voting.

Once the pizzas arrived when the French were on stage and the only French alcohol at hand was cognac, so we drank cognac to the pizza which was just as awful as it sounds. Still, it taught me to appreciate Eurovision.

If I have the time I'm going to watch it.

It's just to damn funny http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

I saw some footage of the qualifying this week. Wow - I think the acoustics they had at this place were the worst I have ever seen/heard http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Yeh I watch it. From what I know, American Idol (in the U.S.) is a lot like Eurovision http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif So I will be watching this one.

Cazbol~Good idea. I drink every kind of soda from every country whenever a certain performer is performing. Last year, I must've drank 50+ soda cans http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

You know this should come under the Politics section, given last year's voting... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

Still it is always a laugh to watch, even if the music sucks and the voting is political. As has already been said its surprisingly fun in a drunken state http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As JAG says, it's funny to invite some friends and watch all the wannabe's try. We always have a good laugh.
Last Wednesday, I saw a part of the prequalifications. OMG The two countries I saw must have been the worst performances in Eurosong history ever (although Pas De Deux (Belgium, somewhere in the eighties) came very very close). The Belorus girl screamed like a pig, and the Swiss guy was yelling as if he were a hooligan. Switched the tv off after that one; couldn't stand it any longer.

It IS horrible and it seems to get even worse every year But I always end up seeing more then I intended... I can hear the TV from the PC so I sometimes get drawn to it (making remarks like: Is slaughtering pigs a new part of the Eurovision Song contest?) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
For the (un)fortunate people living outside Europe I think they also broadcast it over the Internet these days http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-curtain.gif

It's so bad, you just got to love it. It's one of the best laughs all year on telly. Will definitely watch it tonight...

Good thing is, Switzerland is not in it. Nothing humiliates a country more than to be in the Eurovision Song Contest...well, actually, there is one thing...winning it

I'd rather spend tonight playing the worst game i have (Brian Lara's Cricket) than watch the wreck that is Eurovision. Ifthey had some decent singers it' might be ok but it's all Europop and people who canbt really sing THAT well. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

People who say that the Eurovision is crap because of the terrible europop are missing the point Its essentially a drinking game. Have you ever actually analised a drinking game whist sobber? Let me tell you, they are rubbish However, whilst you are in the spur of the moment they are incredibly amusing There is nothing funnier than seeing some eastern european egomaniac make an absolute plonker of himself in front of one hundred million people http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

THe contest is going quite bogus recently, as it turned into a song contest that does not represent the distinctly European type of music and/or culture. Nearly half of the contestants compete with songs, that are more American than EUropean. Two years ago there was even a group which was singing American boogie.

And yes, it is also hugely political contest and especially Turkey takes it quite seriously. It is even a national occasion.

I dont think Turkish group is very good. The name of the group is Athena and is a Ska group. But on the other hand, I dont think any contestant is terribly good.

My vote goes to Greece given the nature of the competition. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Just saw the Turkish group http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Quite ... uhm ... different from the rest of the competitors.

I liked Serbia-Montenegro most. As always there were some really funny performers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I would be happy if you could describe a bit more about how you felt about the Turkish group. What are the negative sides, what did you like about them, and what were you expecting on the other hand etc..? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Actually my wife and I quite liked them (seriously) - they were not quite what we expected, at least they did not fit the cliché that one might have in mind (other than last year's winner).

But usually when watching the Eurovision contest we tend to prefer the performers that have a certain unique style (and not unique in the sense of silly).
Usually more then half of the songs do not have anything special and are just boring to listen to (you hear them and forget them).

So the ones we liked were Serbia-Montenegro, Cyprus (nice voice), Turkey and (not just for patriotic reasons - usually our singers suck) Germany

Well the purpose of the Turkish group is very simple: to change Turkish image in Europe. They are unexpected, but I think they look like young fascists with short hair and loads of tatoo and angry attitude http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I actually look for a good song (which is rare) and some energetic stage performance.

By the way I seriously expect Turkey will give 12 points to Greece.
